Grave-decoration meeting
The grave-decorating committee of the Mahoning County United Veterans Council meets at 2 p.m. April 18 at the Mahoning County Veterans Service Commission office, 2801 Market St., Youngstown. Flags will be issued at the meeting, and applications for Memorial Day expenses will be available.
PROMOTIONS
Air Force commission
Air Force Reserve 2nd Lt. Brian R. Hodor, son of Richard and Bernadette Hodor of Boardman, was commissioned in February after graduating from Officer Training School at Maxwell Air Force Base, Ala. He is scheduled for six months of specialized undergraduate pilot training at Columbus Air Force Base, Miss., this month. After additional training, he will be assigned to the 757th Flight Squadron of the 910th Airlift Wing at the Youngstown Air Reserve Station.
Hodor, a 1996 graduate of Boardman High School, received a bachelor's degree in aeronautics from Kent State University in 2001. He was a flight instructor at KSU's airport.
HONORS
Letter of Appreciation
Marine Corps Lance Cpl. James C. Lazor, son of Kathleen M. Lazor of Jefferson, received a Letter of Appreciation for superior performance of duty while assigned to the Marine Aerial Refueler Transport Squadron 252, Marine Air Group 14, 2nd Marine Aircraft Wing, Marine Corps Air Station, Cherry Point, N.C. Lazor is a 2000 graduate of Jefferson High School.
ADVANCED TRAINING
Aerospace maintenance
Air Force Airman 1st Class Mark P. Robinson graduated with honors from the aerospace maintenance apprentice course at Sheppard Air Force Base, Texas. Robinson also earned the Knuckle Buster Award for his strong initiative and outstanding fundamental maintenance practices, and the Fitness Excellence Award for his exceptional dedication to physical fitness.
Robinson is a dock crew chief assigned to the 121st Air Refueling Wing/Maintenance Squadron in Lockbourne, Ohio. He is the son of Mark and Rosemary Robinson of Boardman, and graduated in 2000 from Boardman High School.
Logistical specialist
Army Pvt. Ashli A. Carr graduated from the automated logistical specialist advanced individual training course at Fort Lee, Va. Carr is the daughter of Stacy Carr of Niles and a 2003 graduate of Life Skills of Trumbull County School, Warren.
Submarine course
Navy Seaman Apprentice Edward J. McGowan and Navy Fireman Apprentice Eric E. Lambert have graduated from the six-week Basic Enlisted Submarine Course at Naval Submarine School, Conn.
McGowan, son of Michelle and Chad Haviland of Girard, is a 2003 graduate of Girard High School.
Lambert, son of Shirley Lynn of Campbell, is a 2003 graduate of Brookfield High School.
