Arrow of Light awards
Five members of Cub Scout Den One, Pack 40, Girard, recently received their Arrow of Light awards, Cub Scouting's highest honor, at the annual Blue Gold Banquet at St. Rose Church, Girard.
The boys who received the awards were Bradley Weddell, Eric Lipscomb, Matthew Mason, Michael Mason and Steven Scudier. Den One leaders are Jeff Byers and Mike Weddell.
Eagle Scout honors
Joseph W. Sabat Jr., son of Joseph and Debbra Sabat of Howland, received the Eagle Scout Award at a Court of Honor March 15 at the Warren Elks Lodge 295. Joe is a member of Greater Western Reserve Council Boy Scout Troop 101 with Jim Potjunas, Scoutmaster.
He joined Troop 101 in 1997 after earning his Arrow of Light with Cub Pack 122. With Troop 101, Joe has held leadership positions of quartermaster, patrol leader, assistant senior patrol leader and senior patrol leader. He earned a total of 23 merit badges, and for his Eagle Service Project he designed and constructed an outdoor shrine for a statue of Mary at Blessed Sacrament Church, where he is a member.
Joe is a senior at Howland High School and will pursue studies in mechanical engineering at the U.S. Air Force Academy after graduation.
