The late and much-lamented Sci Fi Channel series "Farscape" is getting a new, albeit short, lease on life.
Sci Fi announced this week that it has ordered a four-hour "Farscape" miniseries for later this year as part of a rather large slate of projects in development. Other projects include a third "Species" movie, a live-action series based on the anime "Witch Hunter Robin" and an animated show based on "Hellboy" creator Mike Mignola's comic "Amazing Screw-On Head" about a robot secret agent.
The "Farscape" miniseries, subtitled "Peacekeeper War," will pick up the story where the 2003 series finale ended. Sci Fi says it will "bring resolution -- 'Farscape'-style -- to many of the burning questions left unanswered."
Series stars Ben Browder and Claudia Black will reprise their roles in the miniseries, which "Farscape" creator Rockne O'Bannon and David Kemper are writing. Brian Henson will direct.
The cable channel also has added to the cast of its December miniseries "Earthsea," based on Ursula K. Le Guin's novels. Shawn Ashmore ("X2") will star as a young man destined to become a powerful wizard. Danny Glover ("The Royal Tenenbaums") and Kristin Kreuk ("Smallville") have also signed on, joining Isabella Rossellini ("Roger Dodger").
