PREP SOFTBALL Poland splits with Hoban

POLAND -- Mallory Conger's bases-loaded triple Saturday helped the Poland High girls softball team salvage a doubleheader split against Akron Hoban.
After Hoban won the opener 6-1, the Bulldogs (4-1) rebounded with a 7-3 triumph.
Conger and Britt Davis had two hits each as Jenna Susany (2-0) tossed a five-hitter.
In Hoban's win, the Bulldogs committed four errors and were limited to five hits by Hoban pitcher Carli Calderone (2-1). Conger (2-1) threw a four-hitter and struck out eight batters in suffering her first loss.

YOUNGSTOWN -- Stefanie Grimaldi (3-1) and Colleen Courtney (2-0) threw complete-game shutouts and issued no walks for Mooney (6-1).
In the first game, senior Petrina Morocco singled home the winning run in the second inning.
In the nightcap, freshman Diandra Dibacco had a two-out RBI single in the third inning while junior Dana Palazzo had a two-out two-run single in the sixth. Maria Palazzo and Gina Fabian each had two hits for Mooney. Caroleanne Semancik singled three times for the Tigers (2-2).

YOUNGSTOWN -- The Irish (6-0) scored 11 runs in the first inning of Game 2 en route to a doubleheader sweep of St. Thomas Aquinas (0-6).
Maureen Cearfoss was the catalyst in the first game, earning the win while going 4-for-4, with four RBIs. Ashley Siembieda, Alessandra Parry and Jenna Klempay each had two hits in the first game.
In the second game, Ashley Koval had three hits and three RBIs, and earned the pitching victory. Staci Ziobert added three hits, five runs scored and three RBIs.

BOARDMAN -- Meagan Cunningham had solo home runs in each game for the Spartans (5-0). Cunningham singled and homered in the first game, while Mallory Hay had two singles and Krysta Sylvester doubled.
In the win over Cuyahoga Falls, Cunningham had another solo homer and Melanie Lodyn (2-0) was the winner. Danielle Burin added a double and single, Ashley DiDomenico had three singles, Sylvester and Mallory Hay each had two singles.

AUSTINTOWN -- Julie Reigrut pitched the complete-game victory, with eight strikeouts and two walks, and added two triples and two RBIs. Jen Purnell also drove in two runs for the Falcons (1-2).
Crestview 13, Salem 4Crestview 6, Salem 5
EAST FAIRFIELD -- Jen Harroff had two doubles, two singles and three RBIs while Lisa Workman two singles and four RBIs, to lead Crestview in the first game.
Nikki Walton added two singles and two RBIs for Crestview (5-1), while Kelsie Ray had a double and two RBIs. Lindsay Moore pitched a three-hitter with five strikeouts.
In the nightcap, Walton's single in the last of the sixth inning drove in the winning run for Crestview. Jess Sferra pitched a three-hitter with eight strikeouts.
W. Reserve 3, E. Palestine 0W. Reserve 8, E. Palestine 1
BERLIN CENTER -- Junior Katie Harmon threw four strikeouts and issued three walks in a three-hit victory over East Palestine . Junior Quinn McCammon's hit drove in Harmon and junior Andrea Martin in the three-run first inning for Reserve.
In the second game, McCammon had three hits, including a triple and RBI. Also for the Blue Devils (3-2), Harmon had two hits and two RBIs, junior Lindsay Kuebler had two hits and sophomore Olivia Myers earned the win in her first varsity start.
West Branch 6, Southeast 3Southeast 8, West Branch 5
BELOIT -- Ellie Geiger and Bri Benedict had five hits, including three each in the first game, for West Branch.
Vana Morgan also had five hits for the Warriors (2-4). In the opener, Morgan scattered seven hits and struck out three. For Southeast (2-2), Brittany Trammel had four hits.
