Man threatens employeesover supply of OxyContin
YOUNGSTOWN -- A man wearing a baseball cap and sunglasses threatened to shoot pharmacy employees at Rite Aid, 2701 Market St., if they did not hand over the store's supply of the painkiller OxyContin.
The man walked into the store at about 1:26 p.m. Saturday, reports show. He showed a handgun to a pharmacy technician after passing her a threatening note, reports say.
Employees gave the man a 100-pill bottle and he fled in a blue pickup truck.
The drugs were worth $1,000, reports say.
NAACP membership eventis set for April 25
YOUNGSTOWN -- The Youngstown Branch NAACP will have its membership kickoff program at 4 p.m. April 25 at New Bethel Baptist Church, 1507 Hillman St.

Impact on health costs
YOUNGSTOWN -- Dr. Robert Gillette will discuss the impact of technology and the legal system on health-care costs and the need for reform of the system at the League of Women Voters of Greater Youngstown's next meeting at 7 p.m. April 19.
The meeting will be in the Park Vista Retirement Community's gathering room, 1216 Fifth Ave.
Dr. Gillette is a retired family physician and former supervisor in the residency program at St. Elizabeth Health Center.

Public meeting to targetabandoned mine cleanups
SALEM -- Abandoned mine cleanups will be the topic of a public meeting from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Wednesday in Room 119 of the Kent State University Salem Campus, 2491 state Route 45.
Representatives of the Ohio Department of Natural Resources will present a list of proposed projects for Columbiana, Mahoning and other northeast Ohio counties.
Issues to be addressed are ground stabilization, closing abandoned mine entrances, stabilizing mine-related landslides, reduction of pollution and stream sedimentation, and extending a waterline to replace wells contaminated by coal mining.
Community event at mall
HERMITAGE, Pa. -- Shenango Valley Mall will be the host for area nonprofit organizations for a Spring Community Bazaar on Wednesday through Friday.
Organizations and groups will have representatives in the mall throughout the event selling items for fund raising, distributing information and searching for new volunteers.
On Thursday, the Disabled American Veterans' van will be outside the mall's main entrance offering information and assistance to veterans.
On Friday, the Shenango Valley Sashayers will host an interactive square-dancing performance at 3 p.m. in mall center court.
The "Grace In The Wilderness" church youth group will present an inspirational skit at 12:30 p.m. Saturday and the Shenango Valley Sashayers perform again at 2 p.m.

NEW CASTLE, Pa. -- Jameson Health System is hosting a Medicare Town Hall meeting from 10:30-11:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Jameson South Conference Center, 1000 S. Mercer St.
U.S. Rep. Melissa Hart of Bradford Woods, Pa., R-4th, will talk about the new drug discount car and outline the benefits of the new Medicare bill, including prescription drug benefits.

WARREN -- Trumbull County Children Services will recognize three families for overcoming adversity at an annual community breakfast Wednesday.
Recipients of the agency's "Rising Up and Moving On" award will be Karen Schmalstig of Girard, Patricia and Robert Hardman and their granddaughter, Tieranny, all of Warren, and Brandi Wills of Girard.
The agency also will recognize former agency board member Rev. Otis Gordon Jr., Warren treasurer John Taylor and Girl Scout troop 480 leader Ellen Albrecht for their service to children.
