If your power goes out and you miss the "Friends" series final & eacute; on May 6, Warner Bros. Home Video has your back. A DVD of the hourlong final & eacute; (44 minutes or so without commercials) will hit stores within a week after the episode airs, Warner Bros. says. The episode is scheduled for release on DVD on May 11.
Though such a short time between initial airing and home video is pretty much unheard of, the final & eacute; of "Friends" has actually been in the can for close to two months. The cast taped the final episode in February, filming some scenes outside the presence of an audience to keep the show's ending a secret.
NBC has been hyping the "Friends" final & eacute; all season and will turn the last episode into a two-hour affair, including a retrospective special. The episode should draw huge ratings, and Warner Bros., which produces the series, obviously expects a hefty demand for the final & eacute; on DVD.
Sales of recent "Friends" DVD collections seem to bear out such predictions. The seventh-season collection, which hit stores Tuesday, is already No. 4 in Amazon.com's DVD sales rankings, thanks to pre-orders, and the sixth-season set, released in January, ranks at No. 34.
It's unclear whether the DVD of the final & eacute; will include any extra material.
