PREP SOFTBALL ROUNDUP Ursuline pads unbeaten streak



The Irish won in the eighth inning when Sarah Stroney drove in Brittani Shonce.
YOUNGSTOWN -- Sarah Stroney singled home Brittani Shonce with the winning run with one out in the bottom of the eighth inning Thursday, as the Ursuline High softball team defeated Cardinal Mooney, 2-1.
Shonce tripled to center field before Stroney delivered an infield single.
Junior Maureen Cearfoss (4-0) yielded seven hits with eight strikeouts and just two walks for the Irish (4-0, 2-0 Steel Valley Conference). She has allowed two earned runs in four games.
Mooney (4-1, 0-1) scored in the fourth inning when Maria Palazzo singled and went to second on a sacrifice. She scored on a throwing error.
Cearfoss had three singles and a RBI in the fifth.
Mara Palombaro had two singles for the Cardinals.
Boardman 4, Massillon Perry 3
MASSILLON -- Freshman Danielle Burin's third hit of the game plated Addie Carothers with the winning run in the top of the eighth inning for the Spartans (3-0, 2-0 Federal League).
The Spartans led 3-1 with two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning before the Panthers (0-3, 0-3) rallied to tie it.
In the eighth inning, Melanie Lodyn led off with a single to center and Carothers came on to run for her.
Holly Holman sacrificed Carothers to second and Sarah Albani singled her to third. Burin, who also had a double, then delivered.
Chaney 3, Warren JFK 2
YOUNGSTOWN -- Kristen Bielek's two-out single in the bottom of the eighth inning scored Sheila Kollar with the winning run at Volney Rogers.
Bielek also had a RBI double in the fourth inning for the Cowgirls (3-2). Winning pitcher Justine Klopta (3-2) struck out seven batters.
For JFK (0-2), Bonnie Bink hit a RBI double.
Salem 3-1, West Branch 2-10
BELOIT -- Chesney Perry had two hits as the Quakers won the opener.
Niki McIlvain led the Warriors with three hits.
In the nightcap, Evelyn Woods hit two doubles while Bri Benedict and Becky Rinyo each had two hits for the Warriors (1-3). Salem is 2-2.
Liberty 7, Girard 1
GIRARD -- Traci Brkich and Sarah Stofko each had two singles for the Leopards (1-1, 1-0 Trumbull Athletic Conference).
The Leopards led just 3-1 after five innings then scored four times in the top of the sixth.
Crestview 5, Lisbon 0
LISBON -- Sophomore pitcher Jess Sferra (2-1) fired a one-hitter and struck out four batters.
Nikki Walton's two hits, included a two-run double in the second inning. Kelsie Ray had two singles for the Rebels (2-1, 1-1 Tri-County League).
For Lisbon, Heather Sharp doubled.
