PREP BASEBALL ROUNDUP Mineral Ridge's rally in 8th leads to 3-2 ICL victory



Ursuline's Armand DePaul had a one-hiter and Fitch won twice by shutout.
MINERAL RIDGE -- Tim Grantz singled in Brad Ward with the winning run with two outs in the bottom of the eighth inning Thursday as the Mineral Ridge High baseball team defeated Jackson-Milton, 3-2.
Ward reached on an infield single and advanced to second base on a wild pitch.
Zack Kosa and Tim Shaw doubled for Jackson-Milton (0-2, 0-1 Inter-County League).
The Rams (2-0, 2-0) took a 2-0 lead after three innings.
Ursuline 4, Mooney 0
STRUTHERS -- Junior Armand DePaul (1-0) pitched a complete-game one-hitter, with five strikeouts and three walks for the Irish (3-1, 1-0 Steel Valley Conference).
Brett Neely led the Irish with a single and a double.
Cliff Panezich and Brad Borghetti doubled and Dave Patrick had two singles.
Dan Babyak doubled for the Cardinals (0-3, 0-2).
Fitch 8-1, Perry 0-0
MASSILLON -- John Mang and Bob Melnek combined on a pair of shutouts for the Falcons (3-0, 2-0 Federal League).
Mang (1-0) threw a one-hitter with nine strikeouts and just one walk in the opener.
Melnek (1-0) threw a two-hitter with three strikeouts and no walks.
Melnek homered while Mike Eliseo, Mang, and John Burnich had doubles.
The Panthers are 0-3, 0-2.
Campbell 16, Wilson 6
CAMPBELL -- The Red Devils (4-0) fell behind 6-0 in the top of the first inning then finished the five-inning game with a 16-0 run.
Chris Melnik, Anthony Zembillas and Craig DiRenzo had doubles in an 11-hit Red Devil attack.
Andre Figueroa had a double for the Redmen.
Warren JFK 6, Chaney 3
YOUNGSTOWN -- Marc Rossi's two hits included a triple and brought home four runs for the Eagles (1-1).
Phil Biviano had two doubles while Kevin Lee drove in two runs.
For Chaney (2-1), Adam Boris had two hits.
South Range 12, McDonald 3
McDONALD -- Joe Marino went 2-for-4 with a three-run homer in the first inning for the Raiders (2-3, 1-0 Inter-County League).
The Blue Devils tied the score 3-3 after three innings but an eight-run seventh put the decision away for South Range.
Greg Rohan held McDonald to three singles.
Girard 15, Liberty 11
LIBERTY -- Matt Zuppo and Ryan Collins hit triples while Nick Canterino had a double in an 18-hit Girard attack.
Brian Jones homered twice and Aaron Pollack, Marc Doblanski and Shawn Lininger doubled for Liberty.
Girard (3-1, 2-0 Trumbull Athletic Conference) took a 14-3 lead into the bottom of the fifth before the Leopards (0-1, 0-1) scored eight runs in their final three at-bats.
Mathews 7, Bristol 4
VIENNA -- Ben Mackall's two hits included a RBI double for the undefeated Mustangs.
Starter Mike Mainhart had a no-hitter through five innings for Mathews (3-0, 2-0 Northeastern Athletic Conference), but he was relieved in the sixth inning.
Bristol is 1-2, 1-2.
West Branch 8, Carrollton 1
BELOIT -- Winning pitcher Andy Todor struck out nine batters and walked four for the Warriors (1-2, 1-1 Northeastern Buckeye Conference).
Tom Orlando homered and doubled to drive in two runs.
Josh Winans also homered and doubled while J.R. Gibson had three hits.
