YOUNGSTOWN -- A Campbell man faces 12 years in prison for charges stemming from a triple-shooting five years ago.
Leroy Gore Jr., 31, pleaded guilty Wednesday in Mahoning County Common Pleas Court to involuntary manslaughter, which was reduced from the original charge of murder. He also pleaded guilty to two counts of felonious assault and one count of using a firearm to commit the crimes.
In exchange for the pleas, prosecutors dismissed one count of felonious assault and two counts of attempted murder.
Visiting Judge Charles J. Bannon delayed sentencing so the victims can be notified and attend the hearing if they so desire.
Assistant Prosecutor Robert Andrews said a plea agreement worked out among himself, Gore and defense attorney J. Gerald Ingram calls for a 12-year prison sentence.
About the case
The charges stem from a July 10, 1999, drive-by shooting in which 25-year-old Sylvester Patterson of St. Louis Avenue was fatally shot in the head. Eric Little, 29, and Anthony Floyd, 23, both of Youngstown, were wounded, but survived.
Police say the three were among a group of men standing outside a West Glenaven Avenue house when a car sped past and its occupants opened fire.
Gore was indicted by a county grand jury in August 1999 and has been in the county jail since then awaiting trial. By law, that time will be counted toward his eventual prison sentence.
