MAC/TAC Zunic lifts Cardinals to victory



Stacia Ray's single helped Niles top Struthers.
CANFIELD -- Whitney Zunic threw a one-hitter and had three hits as the Canfield High softball team defeated Howland 1-0 in a Metro Athletic Conference game Wednesday.
The Cardinals (2-1, 2-1 MAC) scored their only run in the fourth inning. Nikki Garrett singled, reached second on Zunic's single and advanced to third on an error. She then scored on a wild pitch.
Poland 15, Jackson-Milton 0
POLAND -- Steffi Graf had three hits, including a triple and double, with three runs scored and three RBIs in the Bulldogs' 17-hit attack.
Ciera Urichich and Jess Modic both had three hits and two RBIs for Poland (3-0). Jenna Susany earned the win, striking out four and walking none.
Rhea Weimer singled twice for the Bluejays (2-1).
Niles 4, Struthers 3
STRUTHERS -- The Red Dragons' Stacia Ray singled to score Ashley Lokash with the winning run in the top of the ninth inning. Lokash had doubled. Kelly Leonard had four hits, including three doubles, for Niles (1-2, 1-2).
Michelle High had three singles for the Wildcats (1-2, 1-2 MAC).
Lakeview 8, LaBrae 7
CORTLAND -- Amy Downs scored the winning run in the last of the seventh inning on a throwing error in Lakeview's Trumbull Athletic Conference victory.
Downs and Kelly Moore each had three hits for Lakeview (2-1, 1-1), while Brittney Bucco, Lindsay Whetzel and Lauren Whetzel added two each. Lindsay Whetzel was the winning pitcher.
Hubbard 3, Champion 1
CHAMPION -- Amanda Taylor scattered five hits to earn the win as Hubbard (2-0, 2-0 TAC) defeated Champion. Kelly Hudy hit a double and single for Hubbard. Jessica Bova led the Golden Flashes with two singles.
