Astros 10, Giants 1
HOUSTON -- Looking nothing like a guy who had called it quits, Roger Clemens dominated Barry Bonds and the Giants, holding them to one hit over seven scoreless innings in his Houston debut. Clemens posted his 311th career victory, tying Tom Seaver for 16th on the career list. Clemens also delivered a hit-and-run single in his first at-bat. Clemens struck out nine, including Bonds looking twice at 94 mph fastballs.
Reds 3, Cubs 1
CINCINNATI -- Ken Griffey Jr. hit a two-run homer in his first at-bat of the season, leading Cincinnati to a victory that spoiled Greg Maddux's reunion with the Cubs. Adam Dunn also homered off Maddux. Griffey hit his 482nd career homer to put the Reds up 3-0 in the third. Paul Wilson (1-0) allowed only four hits in seven shutout innings.
Expos 3, Marlins 2
MIAMI -- Claudio Vargas allowed four hits in six innings, and Carl Everett and Orlando Cabrera each homered to lead Montreal. It was a rare victory against starter Brad Penny, who was 10-2 against Expos.
Cardinals 9, Brewers 4
ST. LOUIS -- Scott Rolen capped a five-run rally in the seventh inning with a three-run homer, helping St. Louis to its first win. Jim Edmonds and Rolen each hit their first homers of the season for the Cardinals.
Braves 18, Mets 10
ATLANTA -- Adam LaRoche got the first two hits of his big league career during an 11-run inning for Atlanta. Johnny Estrada and pinch-hitter Julio Franco also had two hits in the fourth. Chipper Jones added a two-run homer for Atlanta. Mike Piazza hit two homers for the Mets and finished 5-for-5 with four RBIs.
Diamondbacks 9, Rockies 5
PHOENIX -- Richie Sexson hit his first home run for Arizona, sparking a seven-run fourth inning. Brent Mayne drove in three runs, including a two-run triple in the fourth. Roberto Alomar also had a two-run triple, and Brandon Webb (1-0) worked six effective innings for the win.
Dodgers 2, Padres 1, 11 innings
LOS ANGELES -- Paul Lo Duca's two-out RBI single in the 11th inning drove in Milton Bradley with the winning run, and Los Angeles beat San Diego for a second straight victory in its last at-bat.
AMERICAN LEAGUE
Yankees 3, Devil Rays 2
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. -- Kevin Brown pitched seven innings for his 199th victory and Jason Giambi snapped a sixth-inning tie with an RBI single. Alex Rodriguez drove in a run as the Yankees strung together four consecutive hits in the sixth off Paul Abbott (0-1).
White Sox 4, Royals 3
KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Miguel Olivo, Magglio Ordonez and Carlos Lee homered as Chicago gave Ozzie Guillen his first victory as a major league manger.
Rangers 2, Athletics 1
OAKLAND, Calif. -- Colby Lewis and the Texas bullpen outpitched Barry Zito as the Rangers snapped a nine-game losing streak against Oakland. Zito lost to Texas for the first time in 18 career starts, allowing seven hits and four walks over eight innings.
Red Sox 10, Orioles 3
BALTIMORE -- Johnny Damon went 5-for-5 with two RBIs, and Boston scored seven runs in the second inning. David Ortiz homered and Kevin Millar had three hits for the Red Sox.
Tigers 6, Blue Jays 3
TORONTO -- Eric Munson hit a three-run homer, and Detroit opened the season 3-0 for the first time in 19 years. Rondell White also homered for the Tigers. Starter Jeremy Bonderman got the win.
Angels 10, Mariners 7
SEATTLE -- Vladimir Guerrero hit a three-run homer and Garret Anderson connected twice for Anaheim over Seattle. Guerrero went 3-for-4 and scored three times, finishing a triple short of the cycle.
