PREP BASEBALL Springfield's Rios delivers game-winner in seventh



Drew Turner had three hits as Mathews rallied to beat Jackson-Milton, 12-11.
NEW MIDDLETOWN -- Melio Rios knocked home the winning run with a bases-loaded hit in the bottom of the seventh inning Tuesday to lead the Springfield High baseball team past Crestview, 3-2.
Winning pitcher John Houser allowed one hit, struck out 11 batters and walked two in six innings.
Aaron Wood tied the game with a sixth-inning homer and led the Tigers (2-1) with three hits.
Youngstown Christian 8, Rayen 1
YOUNGSTOWN -- Winning pitcher Mike Byrdy (1-0) homered in the first inning and added a single while Mike Pecchia had two hits.
It was the season-opener for each team, played at Oakland Field.
Sebring 3, Wilson 2
SEBRING -- Marcus Philippi and Bryant Bailey had hits for the Redmen (0-2). Sebring is 2-0.
Hoover 9, Boardman 0
NORTH CANTON -- Curt Davidson hit a grand slam in the fifth inning and also tripled to drive in eight runs.
The Spartans' pitchers walked 12 batters and hit two others.
Salem 10, Lisbon 4
LISBON -- Travis Milliron homered and doubled for the Quakers (1-1). Brian Bangor and Jay Yorty doubled for the Blue Devils (2-1).
Warren JFK 3, McDonald 3
WARREN -- The game at the JFK baseball field was called at the end of the 10th inning because of darkness.
McDonald's James Beedle worked eight innings, during which time he struck out nine and walked five.
Josh Cooper of the Eagles, in their season opener, worked eight innings, striking out nine and walking one.
Corey Vukovic hit three singles for McDonald, while Mark Rossi hit a pair of home runs.
Mathews 12, Jackson-Milton 11
VIENNA -- Mathews rallied for the deciding two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning in the season opener for both schools.
Drew Turner hit three singles and drove in two runs for the Mustangs.
Zack Kosa and Adam Keck each hit a double for the Bluejays.
Leetonia 11, East Palestine 4
EAST PALESTINE -- Cody Tittle singled three times and drove in two runs for the Bears in the season opener for each team.
Jay Fiehler also doubled for Leetonia which used a five-run fourth inning to take a 7-1 lead.
Campbell 10, Brookfield 7
CAMPBELL -- Stan Gozur had two hits and two RBIs for the Red Devils (2-0). He also was the wining pitcher in relief of Jim Bigley.
Also with two hits were Chris Melnik, Mark Such and Lonnie McQueen.
For Brookfield (1-2), Josh Harkulich had two hits and two RBIs.
Marlington 10, West Branch 1
ALLIANCE -- Tony McAllister (1-0) of the Dukes scattered five hits as he went the distance to pick up the win.
Ryan Whited hit a pair of doubles for the Dukes (1-1).
J.R. Gibson hit a home run for the Warriors (0-1).
