Pre-med program at TMHoffers insight into care
WARREN -- Forum Health Trumbull Memorial Hospital offers an educational program for pre-medical students July 6 through July 30, during which students observe the overall operation of an acute-care hospital under the supervision of medical staff.
Preference for admission is given to students who are in their third or fourth year of pre-med studies. They must complete a written application before May 9, submit an official academic transcript, attend a personal interview and submit a two-page, typed essay regarding their interest in medicine, before final acceptance into the program. Osteoarthritis Initiative
Recruitment has begun for the Osteoarthritis Initiative, a public-private partnership between the National Institutes of Health and industry, aimed at hastening discovery of biological markers for osteoarthritis.
Men and women age 45 and older at risk for developing osteoarthritis, and those with early disease, are eligible to take part. After an initial screening, four centers in the United States plan to each enroll and follow 1,250 adults for five years. Blood, urine and DNA specimens, X-rays and magnetic resonance scans, and clinical data will be collected annually.

Women's cancer program
WARREN -- "Cancer: The Claim, The Quest, The Challenge," an educational program on breast health and music therapy specifically geared toward black women, will be from 5 to 7:30 p.m. April 27 at The Renaissance Place, 1948 Palmyra Road S.W.
Dr. Deforia Lane, an associate director of the Ireland Cancer Center and director of music therapy at University Hospitals of Cleveland, Ireland Cancer Center and Rainbow Babies and Children's Hospital, is the guest speaker.
Along with dinner, the program also will feature a story from cancer survivor Lilly Johnson.
Sponsored by Humility of Mary Health Partners and The Alliance Community Outreach Project of Warren, the program is free, but registration is required by April 22.
