YOUNGSTOWN -- A city man who led authorities from two states on a high-speed chase landed in prison Tuesday.
Terrance Jones, 21, of Gaither Avenue, was sentenced to one year for receiving stolen property and six months for failure to comply with a police order, to which he had pleaded guilty in February. Judge R. Scott Krichbaum ordered the sentences to be served consecutively, for a total of 18 months.
Assistant Prosecutor Jason M. Katz said Jones stole a truck in January from a Hermitage, Pa., motorcycle shop. Two all-terrain vehicles were in the back of the truck.
When Hermitage police tried to stop him, Jones fled out of the city on U.S. Route 62 and state Route 18. He eventually headed west on I-80, swerving from lane to lane at speeds of more than 100 mph, according to Hermitage police reports.
Jones exited onto Belmont Avenue in Trumbull County and headed south into Mahoning County, driving through several red lights along the way, reports said.
When Jones tried to turn from Belmont onto Martin Luther King Boulevard, he lost control of the truck and it hit a utility pole. He got out of the driver's seat and started to run, but a Hermitage police officer caught him and arrested him, reports say.
Defense attorney Douglas B. Taylor said Jones also faces charges in Trumbull County and in Mercer County, Pa., stemming from the same case.
