PREP ROUNDUP Mooney pitchers combine for gem



Jackson-Milton won a slugfest with Lowellville.
YOUNGSTOWN -- Stephanie Grimaldi and Colleen Courtney combined to pitch a no-hitter as Cardinal Mooney High defeated Chaney 17-2 in a softball game Monday.
Grimaldi worked five innings, struck out three and walked one for the Cardinals (2-0).
Courtney finished with a strikeout in one inning of work.
The Cardinals were behind 2-0 going into the bottom of the second inning, then sent 10 players to the plate as they scored six runs.
Mooney had 17 hits, 10 of them coming from freshmen Mara Palombaro, Diandra Dibacco, Laura Guyer and Mimi Vitello.
Dibacco hit two doubles and a single, drove in five runs and scored twice. Palombaro hit three singles and a double and scored four times.
Jackson-Milton 20, Lowellville 10
LOWELLVILLE -- The Bluejays (4-0) had a 15-0 lead going into the bottom of the fourth inning.
Catcher Kay Bruss of Jackson-Milton went 5-for-6, with two doubles and three singles. She drove in three runs and scored three times.
Reha Weimer and winning pitcher Christa Kiraly (4-0) each had three singles.
Lindsay Wilson hit a pair of doubles and a single for the Rockets (1-1).
Ursuline 7, Harding 5
WARREN -- Senior Courtney Davidson doubled twice for the Irish (2-0, 1-0 Steel Valley Conference).
Staci Ziobert and Alyssandra Parry each had two singles for Ursuline, while senior Jenna Vrabel had a two-run single in the seventh inning.
For Harding (0-1, 0-1), Aramys Patterson had a single and a double and Ashley Elder had two singles.
Newton Falls 10, Brookfield 0
NEWTON FALLS -- Lindsey McCartney (2-0) worked six innings, allowed two hits and struck out six for the Tigers (2-0). Kasee Piquet pitched the seventh inning and struck out two in the Trumbull Athletic Conference opener.
Mariah Harris hit three singles and drove in two runs. Courtney Pelyak hit a pair of singles, scored four times and stole a base. Kim Drake hit a double, single and Piquet two singles.
