COLUMBUS -- A Trumbull County businessman has been appointed to the board of trustees at Youngstown State University.
Republican Gov. Bob Taft named William J. Bresnahan, president of Hynes Industries, for a board term ending May 1, 2007. The governor made the appointment Friday.
Bresnahan fills the unexpired term of Charles B. Cushwa III, who passed away last year.
Bresnahan, of Kinsman, said he looks forward to working with YSU President David C. Sweet and other board members to improve the university.
"Youngstown State has a great deal of bearing on the health of the whole region," Bresnahan said. "I'd like to be a part of keeping it healthy."
Background
Bresnahan began his career at Hynes Industries in 1980 and has served as company president since 1989. Before joining the company, he had sales and marketing positions with Proctor & amp; Gamble and Pharmacia Inc.
Hynes is a steel processor and manufacturer of metal components, with products sold throughout the United States.
Bresnahan is a 1976 YSU graduate with a bachelor of science degree in business administration. He also received a master's degree of business administration from the University of Pittsburgh in 1986.
Bresnahan serves on the board of Sky Bank/Sky Bank Mahoning Valley Region, the McDonald Steel Corp. and Metals Service Center Institute, an international trade association of service centers and steel producers based in Chicago, a YSU press release says.
Bresnahan also serves on YSU's executive committee and served as chairman of the YSU Foundation from 2000-2003. He also chaired the university's Operations Improvement Task Force in 2000-01.
He and his father, William W. Bresnahan, were named Friends of the University at YSU in 2002, and the Bresnahan suites in Kilcawley Center are named for the family.
He was chairman of the Youngstown/Mahoning Valley United Way Campaign in 2003 and served as past chairman of the Youngstown/Warren Regional Chamber. He also served in the Marines and the Marine Reserves.
He and his wife, the former Joyce Crawford, have five children.
