PRINCIPLES
Greater Ohio's top 10
Greater Ohio, a new organization that will push for state policies that will veer away from sprawl, supports these 10 principles:
Involving citizens from throughout the state in creating a new vision for economic development and quality of life in Ohio.
Tax reforms that encourage the redevelopment of cities and towns, historic preservation, tax-base sharing strategies, the preservation of open space and school funding equity.
Updating the state's land-use planning laws.
Public policies that encourage better planning and create incentives for communities in metropolitan regions to cooperate and plan together for the future.
State and local economic development policies that encourage growth in existing communities over the development of greenfields where no infrastructure currently exists.
Preservation of farmland, where appropriate, throughout Ohio and encouraging public policies that work toward that end.
Public policies that promote a more balanced transportation system that offers choices, encourages walkable communities and reduces traffic congestion.
Public policies that address equity disparities within regions related to tax base, educational quality, affordable housing, concentrations of poverty and racial segregation.
Environmental policies that work to preserve the state's natural resources and prevent and minimize air and water pollution.
State and federal policies that reinvest in Ohio's aging infrastructure.
