WEDNESDAY'S AREA RESULTS
BASEBALL
Thiel 9, Mount Union 7 -- After trailing 7-3 going into the sixth inning, the Tomcats rallied with four runs in the sixth and two more in the seventh. Junior Keith Jackson (Salem) got his first save of the season, pitching the final inning. Sophomore outfielder Brett Bell (Badger) paced the Tomcats, going 3-for-5 with a pair of RBIs. Sophomore catcher Kinsey Henderson (East Liverpool) finished with two hits and two RBIs.
SOFTBALL
Westminster 12-5, Penn State-Altoona 0-16 -- Game one saw freshman pitcher Jennifer Pancake of Boardman fire a five-inning no-hitter with no walks and eight strikeouts to improve to 9-2. The Titans pounded out 12 hits led by junior first baseman Heidi Kimmel (Poland), who went 3-for-4 with a double, a triple, two runs scored and four RBIs. Pancake helped her own cause by going 2-for-4 with three RBIs. In the nightcap, Pancake was 2-for-3 at the plate with a pair of RBIs, while Kimmel added a two-run home run.
Pitt-Bradford 4-3, Thiel 1-2 -- Thiel freshman shortstop Sarah McCoy (Beaver Local) finished 1-for-3 with an RBI in the first game.
Grove City 7, La Roche 0 -- Senior Allison Atwood fired a four-hit shutout and also went 3-for-4 at the plate in the Wolverines' opener. La Roche held a 2-0 lead in the second game of the doubleheader, but rain forced the game to be called in the third inning.
TENNIS
Westminster 8, Bethany 1 -- The Titans improved to 4-7 overall and 2-0 in Presidents' Athletic Conference play. Westminster swept all three doubles matches and won five of six singles contests against the Bison.
Grove City 9, Thiel 0 -- The Wolverines improved to 5-1 overall and 3-0 in the Presidents' Athletic Conference. It is their 20th win in their last 22 matches.
