Wooster
Holly Duff (Lakeview) concluded her swimming career by being ranked No. 8 in school history in the 1650-yard freestyle. Duff achieved that ranking with a time of 18 minutes, 35.08 seconds, to place 12th as a sophomore during the 2001-02 season at the North Coast Athletic Conference Championships. As a senior, Duff competed in three events at the NCAC meet and placed 11th in the 200 freestyle (2:00.41), 12th in the 500 freestyle (5:23.11) and 15th in the 1650 freestyle (19:00.89). The season before as a junior, she scored points in three events at the NCAC Championships for the second year in a row. She placed 11th in the 1650 freestyle (18:55.24), 12th in the 200 freestyle (2:01.10) and 15th in the 500 freestyle (5:23.94). A psychology major, Duff is the daughter of Mary Lou Duff. While at Lakeview, she lettered all four years as a swimmer, was a three-time district qualifier and was valedictorian of her graduation class.
Baldwin-Wallace
Matt Marks (Boardman) and Kelly Williams (Canfield) turned in successful freshman seasons with the men's and women's basketball teams. Marks, a 6-foot-5 wing, averaged 7.7 points and 2.9 rebounds per game while playing in all 26 contests, starting 20 of them. He made 77-for-181 (42.5 percent) from the field and 38-for-48 (79.2 percent) at the free throw line, and had eight steals and three blocks. Marks helped the Yellow Jackets to an 18-8 overall record, including 13-5 in the Ohio Athletic Conference. Williams, a 5-4 guard, played in all 27 games, starting 11 of them, and averaged 3.6 points and 1.4 rebounds. She made 33-for-83 (39.8 percent) from the field and 20-for-25 (80 percent) at the free throw line. She also had 42 assists, good for fourth-best on the team, and was one of the top defenders with 39 steals. Williams helped B-W to a 23-4 overall record, including 15-3 in the OAC for the regular season co-championship.
Denison
Emily Larouere (Poland), a senior guard for the women's basketball team, was a key factor in the Big Red's 18 wins this season that tied the school record. Larouere led the team in assists (124) and steals (60), and averaged 7.8 points as Denison finished 18-9, including 11-5 in the North Coast Athletic Conference. She had a game-high five steals in the Big Red's 64-55 win over Kenyon Jan. 3.
Walsh
Alan Dattilio (West Branch), a freshman on the golf team, had the top grade-point average on the team last semester with a 3.8 as a liberal arts major. While at West Branch, Dattilio was the Warriors' top golfer for four years, and was a two-time all-state selection and four-time All-Northeastern Buckeye Conference choice and an NBC player of the year and scholar-athlete.
Gannon
Sean Lysowski (Boardman) is a freshman catcher and one of four area players with the baseball team. The other area players all are from Hickory: senior pitcher Brad Hruska, junior outfielder Joe Daoust and junior pitcher Robert States. Gannon had a 10-4 record as of last week.
Ashland
Adam Chatman (Cardinal Mooney) is on the indoor track team. Chatman is a redshirt freshman hurdler who competes in the 110 and 400 hurdles.
Hiram
Jonathan Weaver (South Range), a freshman, won the 400 freestyle relay (3:24.1) in a 91-16 loss at Washington & amp; Jefferson.
Thiel
Sarah McCoy (Beaver Local), a freshman shortstop for the softball team, went 1-for-3 with an RBI in a 4-1 loss at Pitt-Bradford. Thiel is 5-11.
Malone
Scotty Jones (East Palestine), a freshman golfer, helped the Pioneers win the Malone Invitational at Tannenhauf Golf Course and also was selected to the All-Tournament Team. Jones had a 74-72--146, which was good for fourth place. Malone had 593 to beat second-place Marian (Ind.) with 596.
