Mann namedPAC's top hitter
BETHANY, W.Va. -- Sam Mann, a freshman first baseman and pitcher for the Washington & amp; Jefferson College baseball team from Howland High, has been named the Presidents' Athletic Conference hitter of the week.
Mann enjoyed a .500 batting average (16-for-32) for 10 games at the Gene Cusic Classic in Florida. He hit a triple and two doubles, with nine runs scored and eight runs batted in.

Scudere getsPAC honor
NEW WILMINGTON -- Lou Scudere, a freshman sprinter for the Thiel College track team from Brookfield High, has been named Presidents' Athletic Conference Men's Track & amp; Field Athlete of the Week.
Scudere was outstanding in the 13-team College of Wooster Invitational last Saturday. He won the 100-meter dash (11.18 seconds) and anchored the winning 4x100-meter relay team, while placing second in the 200-meter dash (22.71).
Eastwood Mallto honor Ursuline
NILES -- The Ursuline High girls basketball team, which won the state Division III championship, will be honored by the Eastwood Mall on Sunday at 2 p.m. at Center Court.
On hand will be the Ursuline players, coaches and school officials.
The Eastwood Mall Complex will present the Ursuline athletic department with a check for $1,000.

Titans' Pancaketosses no-hitter
NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. -- Jennifer Pancake, a freshman pitcher for the Westminster College softball team from Boardman High, has been named the Eastern College Athletic Conference South Region Pitcher of the Week for her performance last week.
Earlier this week, she also was named Presidents' Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week.
Pancake won three games, two as a starter and one game as a reliever, to help Westminster post a 4-0 record last week. She did not allow any earned runs while giving up only three hits, with no walks and 12 strikeouts in 132/3 innings.
Through Sunday, she had not allowed any earned runs in 512/3 innings, striking out 33 and walking just three.
Wednesday, Pancake fired a five-inning no-hitter, with no walks and eight strikeouts, to improve to 9-2 this season. She has not allowed an earned run in 652/3 innings.

FORT MYERS, Fla. -- Red Sox shortstop Nomar Garciaparra will start the season on the disabled list with an injured right Achilles' tendon and is expected to be out at least three weeks.
The All-Star said that doctors told him to stay off his feet. Pokey Reese will be at shortstop when Boston opens the regular season Sunday in Baltimore.
Earnhardt fined
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- Dale Earnhardt Jr. was hit with a $10,000 fine and the loss of 25 NASCAR Nextel Cup points for purposely causing a caution flag in the race at Bristol.
Earnhardt had fallen behind because of a tire problem and was in danger of going down a lap when he spun, bringing out a yellow flag that allowed him to pit for tires and stay on the lead lap during the Food City 500 at Bristol Motor Speedway last Sunday. He wound up finishing 11th.
McGrady outfor season
ORLANDO, Fla. -- NBA scoring leader Tracy McGrady will miss the rest of the season after the Orlando Magic put him on the injured list because of left knee tendinitis.
McGrady, averaging 28 points, skipped the past two games because his knee was sore and now also will be sidelined for the Magic's final seven games.
U.S. wins, 1-0
PLOCK, Poland -- The United States tuned up for World Cup qualifying by beating Poland 1-0 in an exhibition game on DaMarcus Beasley's goal, ending the hosts' seven-game winning streak.
Goalkeeper Brad Friedel had a shutout in his first national team game in nearly two years for the United States, which lost to Poland 3-1 in the first round of the 2002 World Cup.
