Kurt Michaelis namedathlete of week
INDIANAPOLIS -- Youngstown State senior Kurt Michaelis is the Horizon League male track athlete of the week.
Michaelis qualified for the NCAA Mideast Regional in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 9 minutes, 6.57 seconds at the Raleigh Relays Saturday. His time was the fourth-fastest overall in the race and third among collegiate runners. His time is also the seventh-fastest run in the nation this season.
Games canceled
PITTSBURGH -- YSU's softball game against Pittsburgh Tuesday was canceled after a half-inning. The game will not be made up.
YSU visits Toledo Thursday, at 3 p.m. for a doubleheader.
YSU's baseball game on Tuesday also was canceled. The Penguins are scheduled at West Liberty (W. Va.) today for a doubleheader.

Golden Gloves
YOUNGSTOWN -- The Cleveland Golden Gloves tournament will begin Thursday at the Metroplex Athletic Facility, 18901 South Miles Road, Warrensville Heights.
Youngstown participants will come from Jack Loew's Southside Boxing Club, Frank West and the Buckeye Elks and Reggie Revere's Boxing Academy. Canfield trainer John Hobart could have an unattached entrant depending on how well-conditioned and prepared he feels his fighter will be.
Loew's Southside Boxing participants will be 119-pound novice Charlie Fagan, 132-pound novice Chris Hazimihalis and super-heavyweight Marcus Forest.
From the Frank West Buckeye Elks will be a pair of big open division fighters in 178-pounder Josh Harris and super-heavyweight Orin Timmons.
Former Golden Glove champion Reggie Revere will have two fighters entered from his Boxing Academy, 165 open boxer Nate Adams and 175 pound sub-novice fighter Derrick Eggleston.

Titans' Matune,Pancake selected
NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. -- A pair of Westminster College athletes were recognized as players of the week by the Presidents' Athletic Conference.
John Matune, a graduate of Kennedy Catholic High, finished sixth out of 88 golfers at the Malone College Invitational. He shot 73-74--147.
Pitcher Jennifer Pancake, a graduate of Boardman High, was named softball player of the week. She won three games, including two as a starter.
Bowling tournament
YOUNGSTOWN -- The 28th officers tournament of the Youngstown Women's Bowling Association will be April 18 at 2 p.m. at Bell-Wick Bowl.
The singles tournament is open to all 2003-2004 sanctioned league officers (summer and winter), officers and directors of the Youngstown 500 and 600 bowling clubs, YWBA directors, life members and members emeritus.
The entry fee of $15 is payable to the YWBA and should be mailed to Fran Miller, c/o YWBA, 2703 Mahoning Avenue, Suite 101, Youngstown 44509. Entries close April 3.
Wildcat scramble
STRUTHERS -- The Struthers High athletic department, in conjunction with Transit Tours of Struthers, will host a Wildcat Golf Scramble June 9 at Reserve Run Golf Course.
The 8 a.m. shotgun start will be followed by lunch, adult refreshments, a Chinese auction, and a lamb and pork roast.
Cost is $300 per four-person team. Hole-in-one prizes, presented by Boardman Nissan, include a two-year lease on a 2004 Nissan Titan.

Proceeds will benefit Struthers athletic facilities.

WASHINGTON -- Receiver James Thrash returned to the Washington Redskins in a trade that sent a 2005 fifth-round draft pick to the Philadelphia Eagles.
Agassi loses
KEY BISCAYNE, Fla. -- Andre Agassi was upset 6-2, 7-6 (2) by Agustin Calleri in the fourth round of the Nasdaq-100 Open.
In other men's play, second-seeded Andy Roddick reached the quarterfinals for just the second time. He lost only 10 points on his serve and needed barely an hour to eliminate unseeded Guillermo Canas 6-3, 6-3.
Roddick's opponent Thursday will be No. 5 Carlos Moya, who beat No. 19 Tommy Robredo 6-3, 6-3.
On the women's side, top-seeded Serena Williams won the tournament's most lopsided quarterfinal since 1996, beating Jill Craybas 6-0, 6-1. Williams' opponent in the semifinals Thursday will be No. 25-seeded Eleni Daniilidou, who beat Karolina Sprem 6-1, 6-3.
McMurray fined
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- Jamie McMurray was fined $10,000 by NASCAR and placed on probation until the end of August for spinning out Matt Kenseth at Bristol Motor Speedway.
McMurray, the 2003 rookie of the year on NASCAR's top circuit, was penalized for actions detrimental to stock car racing. He is on probation until Aug. 31.

DETROIT -- Injured Red Wings goaltender Curtis Joseph is not expected to play the final three games of the regular season, Detroit coach Dave Lewis said.
