Five more boys to watch
Richard Baroff, senior, Liberty: Last year's sectional champion. Played No. 1 singles last season for Leopards, whose lone loss came against Howland. Lost in second round of district tournament.
Luke Duchek, junior, Poland: Paired with Jon Funk to finish as Division II sectional runners-up last season, losing to eventual state runners-up Brian Meek and Donald Person of Ursuline. Advanced to district tournament, but lost in first round.
Kevin Kuppler, senior, Canfield: Paired with Matt Waigand to finish as Div. I sectional runners-up and advance to the district tournament. His older brother, Chris, was one of the area's top players last year. Lost in consolation match at last year's district tournament.
Kelton Person, junior, Ursuline: Has won two straight No. 3 doubles titles in Steel Valley Conference tournament. Top seed in last year's Div. II singles sectional tournament. Lost to Baroff in sectional final, then lost in first round of district. His older brother, Donald, plays tennis at DePauw.
Bryant Salcedo, freshman, Boardman: One of the top players in the nation in his age group. May miss early part of the season due to traveling tournaments.
More teams to watch
Boardman: The Spartans finished second in last year's Steel Valley Conference standings. They will benefit from having Salcedo in the second half of the season, but have a tough road ahead in their first season in the Federal League.
Canfield: Perennial power has won every Metro Athletic Conference title since the league formed in 1994. Howland won a share of the title last season -- the first time the Cardinals did not win the league outright. Top singles player Chris Kuppler graduated, but plenty of talent returns.
