Thiel
Kinsey Henderson, a sophomore catcher for the baseball team from East Liverpool High, was named Presidents' Athletic Conference Player of the Week in hitting from March 8-13. Henderson had 11 straight hits and batted .625 on 15-for-24 over the span, as the Tomcats posted a 2-4 record. He also had two home runs, four doubles, six RBIs and eight runs scored.
Bethany
Janice Masters and Romney Waters, members of the softball team, were named Eastern College Athletic Conference players of the week for the Southern Region. Masters, a senior, earned hitter of the week accolades by going .357 in five games at the East Coast College Classic. Masters is hitting .341 this season and leads the Bison with 17 RBIs, seven doubles and two home runs. Waters, a sophomore, was named pitcher of the week after throwing three complete games and going 3-0. She gave up just five earned runs in 21 innings and struck out 26 batters. She is 7-3 this season and boasts a 1.45 earned run average.
Also, Kelley Richardson was named to d3hoops.com's All-America Team. She was a fourth team selection. Richardson led the Bison to a 23-5 record, which broke the school record for wins in a season. She led the Presidents' Athletic Conference in scoring (19.6) and field-goal percentage (.547) and was second in rebounding (9.8) and seventh in free throw percentage (.721). She became the first Bethany women's player to reach 1,000 career points and rebounds for a career.
Westminster
Eleven members of the women's basketball team were awarded letters by coach Rosanne Scott. Area players cited were senior Rena Paroz, a guard from Brookfield High; and freshmen Desiree Sterling, guard from Newton Falls; Talley Felger, forward from Springfield; and Nicole Fee, guard from Neshannock High. Other players recognized were senior guard Sarah Scott, junior guards Alyson Gasper and Michelle Ripper, junior forwards Erica Tallo, Mary Jane Eaton and Erin Morrow and freshman forward Rachel Easton. Tallo made the All-Presidents' Athletic Conference first team, while Sterling was named to the second team and Eaton was an honorable mention. Scott, a graduate of Struthers High, guided Westminster to a 15-11 record, including 7-3 in the PAC, and was named PAC co-coach of the Year.
