HONORED Kiwanis member recognized at conference in Columbus



COLUMBUS -- A local area resident was recognized during the mid-year conference of Ohio District of Kiwanis held March 13 at the Marriott North Hotel in Columbus.
Charles H. Whi-tman of Boardman, a 28-year member and past president of Youngstown Kiwanis Club, was the recipient of the Distinguished Lieutenant Governor Award for Division 21 of the Ohio District.
Whitman was one of eight Kiwanians chosen to receive the award at the event. It was presented in recognition of his outstanding leadership during his term of office as Lt. Governor over the 12 Kiwanis clubs in Mahoning and Columbiana counties.
A graduate of Youngstown State University with a bachelor's degree in education and a master's in secondary education administration, Whitman was a business education teacher at Boardman High School, and retired in 1993 after 19 years of service as emeritus director of career services at YSU.
A member of the Service Corps of Retired Executives for 10 years, Whitman, is serves as chairman of Youngstown Chapter 112. He is active with Mahoning County Board of Aging, the Senior Center of Mahoning County, and Camp Fire USA.
During the conference, the Youngstown and Boardman clubs received the Distinguished Club awards; Austintown and Western Mahoning County clubs received education awards, and Boardman, Eastside, Uptown and Western Mahoning County clubs received club achievement awards.
