COLLEGE OF WOOSTER
Junior Melisa Kundracik and freshman Richard Giles, both of Youngstown, were honored at the college's 34th annual Recognition Banquet this winter.
Kundracik, a graduate of Boardman High School, received The John W. Chittum Scholarship for the study of chemistry. Giles, a Wilson High School graduate, received The Dow Chemical Company Foundation Scholarship to study chemistry.
Sophomore Stephen Bassett, a graduate of Niles McKinley High School, played the role of Caldwell in Marsha Norman's "Getting Out" as presented by the college's Department of Theatre this winter.
SLIPPERY ROCK UNIVERSITY, Slippery Rock, Pa.
Several local students were among the roughly 150 who spent spring break studying overseas as part of various SRU courses.
Ashleigh McQuiston of Wampum, Pa., visited Alcala, Spain, for a Great Books course and Jessica Wiseman of West Pittsburgh, Pa., visited London and Paris to study student government and leadership.
Lee Davis of Mercer, Pa., and Tyler Faria of New Castle, Pa., visited London for a communication course. Visiting the Bahamas for a course on oceanography and environmental problems were Jeffrey Jubach of New Wilmington, Pa., and Danielle Fry of Greenville, Pa.
Visiting Dublin, Ireland, for a course on event management were Jamie Knauff of Greenville, Pa., Monica Galmarini of New Castle, Pa., and Erin Kelly and Alicia Krummert, both of Mercer, Pa.
Visiting Paris for a modern art course were Dawn Smith of Stoneboro, Pa.; Parker Maynard of Volant, Pa.; Carrie Moore of Mercer, Pa.; Derek Marmo and Valerie Vernier, both of New Castle, Pa.; and Rebecca Yarian, Laura Arnhold and Allen Liebling, all of Grove City, Pa.
UNIVERSITY OF AKRON
Junior visual communications/graphic design major Alexander B. Kidd of Boardman has been inducted into the Golden Key International Honour Society, which recognizes college juniors and seniors who are among the top 15 percent of their classes.
Kidd also is the advertising production manager for The Buchtelite university newspaper. A 2000 graduate of Boardman High School, he is the son of Alex and Georgia Kidd.
BOWLING GREEN STATE UNIVERSITY
Junior applied health science major Bridget Toth of Boardman was among 20 students inducted into the university's Beta Tau Circle of the Omicron Delta Kappa national leadership honor society this winter, based on scholarship; athletics; social, service, religious and campus government activities; journalism, publications, speech and mass media; and/or creative and performing arts.
A Boardman High School graduate, Toth also is an audio-visual specialist and a member of the Ranger Club for Amy ROTC. She is a member of the Academic Investment in Math and Science program, has been vice president of BGSU's International Relations Organization and has served on the Honors Student Association Roundtable. Last year, she spearheaded a local donate-a-phone campaign that collected more than 150 cellular phones for victims of domestic violence. She is the daughter of Joe and Jean Toth.
MALONE COLLEGE, Canton
Two local students achieved high ratings during the Pi Kappa Delta Greater Northeast Provincial Tournament held at Bowling Green State University this winter.
Junior Lonette Clinkscale of Boardman earned a top superior rating in prose and second-level excellent ratings in the poetry and duo categories; she also was undefeated in three rounds of prose. Senior Kristy Fullerman of Canfield earned excellent ratings in the prose and duo categories and a third-level good rating in dramatic interpretation.
Overall, the Malone College Forensics Team placed second among 11 teams and was one of only two teams awarded an overall superior rating.
