BOXING KO Drugs tournament's 2004 registration dates upcoming

HUBBARD -- The 18th K.O. Drugs High School Boxing Tournament will be held at the Hubbard High's gymnasium for the third consecutive year with dates that will stretch over a three-month period, starting April 27. The finals are scheduled for June 1.
Registration and weigh-in dates, announced by tournament founder and director Chuck Nelson, are April 7 and April 14, between 4 and 6:30 p.m. at Hubbard High gymnasium. A late registration date will be April 21 with the same hours.
Along with the requirement of parental consent there is also a $20 registration fee for all participants' physical examinations and insurance through the duration of the tournament.
Divisions, classes
The same format is applicable with two divisions of competition. There is the underclass with 9th and 10th graders and the upperclass with 11th and 12th graders, with 12 weight classes for each division. There also is female competition which includes all grades. Eighteen-ounce gloves with extra padded headgear will be supplied for the participants and the rounds will be 45 seconds long. As it has been in the past this is a double-elimination tournament.
"Our goal is not only to crown young men and young women boxing champions, but always to promote safety and good sportmanship," said Nelson.
Proceeds of the tournament will benefit Hubbard High athletes along with the school's other extracurricular activities, and the K.O. Drugs organization.
