Palette of pretty pastels makes skin tones blush

KNIGHT-RIDDER NEWSPAPERS
Since pink is the 'in' color for spring, experts offer the suggestions on how to select a color of pink that is right for your skin tone:
If you're pale-toned: Try a light pink.
"Pale women can do a simple wash of color across the lips for a sheer look, such as Air Trance in the Hipnotic line," says M.A.C senior artist Matthew Arbogast. "It's a soft shimmery pink that is beautiful by itself."
Need a blush and lip color? Debbi Hartley-Triesch, national beauty and fragrance director for Nordstrom, suggests:
UBlush: Bobbi Brown's Desert Rose with a "pop of" the line's Peony blush
UAnother lip option: Bobbi Brown's Heather Rose creamy color gloss
If you're olive-toned:
"If the person is a little bit darker, say very tan or Hispanic, put the Air Trance lip gloss with a lip pencil, like Currant or Chestnut. It will deepen the color, but still give you the essence of pink, and it works with what you're trying to create," Arbogast says.
UBlush: Try Peaches, a bright coral, that Arbogast says is beautiful on olive or tanned skin. "In anyone over 40, it takes 10 years off almost instantly," he says. "You don't need a whole lot of other makeup on with it."
ULips: Hartley-Triesch's suggestion: M.A.C's Pink Poodle lip gloss that has a hint of iridescence for the "ultimate sexy lip."
If you're dark-toned:
"A light pink might turn ashy, but by using a deeper color, it will give richness and warmth," suggests M.A.C's Arbogast. "You can think about doing pink in a different way. Do a fuchsia. It will give you a bright pink tone, but in a different way."
ULips: Paler skin tones can wear bolder shades like fuchsia, Arbogast says, but he suggests putting it on the lower lip and then pressing the lips together to create a sheerer tone.
UBlush: For spring, a plum will go more rose on a person of color, Arbogast says. "And peach and corals are absolutely the most perfect shades you can pick for your blush," he insists.
But Arbogast and others say you really have to try out colors to really figure out the best. If your skin is deeper-toned, then look for something with a brown undertone; it will neutralize the coral, so it won't look too bright, he says.
