Fall leaves teen 'critical'
GREEN -- James Dwyer, 18, of Red Grouse Court, Boardman, remained in critical condition today in St. Elizabeth Health Center after he fell at 12:20 a.m. Sunday from a 6-foot-high deck at an unoccupied house for sale in the 9300 block of state Route 62, Green Township, according to the Mahoning County Sheriff's Department.
Dwyer hit his head on a landscape rock, said Maj. Michael Budd.
The son of the home's owner had invited friends over to play basketball, Budd said. The cause of the fall remains under investigation.
Case of assault on trustee
BOARDMAN -- A father and son accused of attacking Poland Township Trustee Annette DiVito in her home earlier this year will be in Struthers Municipal Court Friday morning.
Rob Baldwin, 28, of Boardman, is charged with aggravated menacing, criminal damaging, felonious assault and burglary. His father, Robin Baldwin, 52, of Poland, is charged with felony complicity.
Both men are also set to appear in Boardman area court at 6 p.m. April 8 to face other charges. Rob Baldwin is charged with misdemeanor criminal damaging and Robin Baldwin is charged with misdemeanor criminal damaging and assault in Boardman.
Before the altercation at the DiVito home, the men were in an altercation with DiVito and her husband, Frank, at a Boardman bar.
3 arrested in store raids
YOUNGSTOWN -- Unique Lingerie and Biker Apparel, 2620 Mahoning Ave., and its former location,1689 Mahoning Ave., were raided by police at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday.
At 1689 Mahoning, Robert A. Maravola, 38, of Roslyn Avenue was charged with possession of marijuana, and Roberto Barreto, 24, of East Glenaven Avenue was charged with possession of cocaine and possession of marijuana. Police said Maravola owns both locations.
At the lingerie and biker shop, Sheena Berk, 35, of Bennett Drive was charged with drug abuse marijuana. Berk is a clerk at the store.
Police didn't clarify Barreto's relationship to the stores or Maravola.
Engineer workers contract
WARREN -- A labor contract with 61 office and road employees of county Engineer John Latell has been filed with Trumbull County commissioners.
The workers, represented by American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees Local 11/AFL-CIO, will receive a 3 percent pay raise over the three-year life of the contract.
The engineer will also increase payments to employees' pension funds by 4 percent over three years, reducing employees' out-of-pocket payments. The contract also included a reduction in health-care benefits.
Under the new contract, a janitor with two years' experience would make $12.69 an hour; an electrician with the same level of experience would make $18.49 an hour, officials said.
Bed tax to go to airport
WARREN -- Trumbull County commissioners have allocated all of the county's 4 percent hotel-room tax to the Youngstown-Warren Regional Airport as of the end of next month.
The county convention and visitors bureau, which had received half of the room-tax funds, will be able to get through this year using the proceeds of taxes already collected, commissioners say.
The bureau has been operating off $200,000 savings since that money was brought to the attention of commissioners in December.
Pain management meeting
LIBERTY -- A neurological conference, "Avenues for Pain Management," will be Saturday from 7:15 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Holiday Inn MetroPlex, 1620 Motor Inn Drive.
Sponsored by the Mahoning Valley Epilepsy Fund and Help Hotline Crisis Center, the event includes sessions on acute and chronic pain, sleep disorders, psychological aspects of chronic pain, Reiki relaxation techniques and the human aura.

Board, auditors to meet
MINERAL RIDGE --The Weathersfield Local Board of Education will meet in executive session at 6 p.m. April 7 at the high school with state auditors to review and discuss a performance audit the state has been doing since last July.
The audit was triggered by the district's financial status.
