Winners were honored for their local and international service to others.

Those honored are:

UKaren S. Brunk of Salem, a registered nurse, has been involved with the American Red Cross as a local and national disaster volunteer and a local Red Cross board member. Since 1987, she has done short-term missions work in Jamaica a few weeks each year, and recently served a year at a clinic in Good Hope, a remote, rural mountain community in that country. She plans to return there for a more long-term commitment.
UJohn Talbot of Salem is a retired Air Force master sergeant and a Red Cross CPR and first-aid instructor. As chairman of the chapter's armed forces emergency services, he initiated a support group for military families.
UJim Harp of Salem has been involved with Red Cross blood services in Columbiana County and neighboring counties since 1993. He works all stations at a blood drive but is primarily a blood-drive escort, monitoring people who have just donated blood, watching for dizziness, fainting or other adverse reactions.

Since 1980, the department has staffed an advanced emergency medical services team and ambulance. The department has a new pumper and a mass casualty and rehab unit trailer. Jerry Allison, a 35-year department veteran, spearheaded the campaign to develop this trailer to augment the department's resources. The trailer can be used for respite care and to rehabilitate firefighters during a response. It also contains mass casualty equipment and tower floodlights.
