Death-penalty indictment

HAMILTON, Ohio (AP) -- A man charged with killing a friend whose burned, dismembered body was found in a field could receive the death penalty if convicted.
A Butler County grand jury indicted Cardale Goens, 36, of Hamilton, on charges of aggravated murder, tampering with evidence and gross abuse of a corpse Wednesday in the death of Jeffrey Watson, 41, of Hamilton. Authorities say Goens shot Watson to death Dec. 16 during an argument at Goens' apartment.
Co-defendants Anthony C. Ruffin, 44, of Cincinnati, and Gary Benson, 50, of Hamilton, have been charged with tampering with evidence and gross abuse of a corpse.
Investigators said Benson and Ruffin were present at the shooting, and that all four men were living in the house, which is divided into apartments. The three men dismembered and burned Watson's body between Dec. 16 and Dec. 23, according to the indictment.
Watson's body was found Dec. 31 in a muddy field off state Route 177. The body was identified six weeks later through DNA evidence.
Goens and Benson are scheduled to be arraigned April 12 in Butler County Common Pleas Court. A court date has not been set for Ruffin.
