WNBA coach to speak against tobacco to pupils
SHARON, Pa. -- Dan Hughes, coach of the Women's National Basketball Association's Cleveland Rockers, will bring an anti-tobacco message to schools in the Shenango Valley.
"Hooked on Hoops, Not Tobacco" will be sponsored by Mercer County Behavioral Health Commission.
Hughes has been with the Cleveland Rockers for four seasons and was voted WNBA Coach of the Year in 2001.
He'll talk to pupils Tuesday about the health hazards of tobacco use and ways to resist pressure to smoke.
Hughes will speak at 9 a.m. at Case Avenue Elementary School, Sharon; 10:30 a.m. at Farrell Elementary School; and 1:30 p.m. at Delahunty Middle School, Hermitage.
He will be joined by his starting point guard, Helen Darling; his two assistant coaches, Cheryl Reeve and Janice Braxton; and former NBA All-Star Campy Russell for a basketball skills clinic at 6 p.m. at Sharpsville High School.
