Canfield runs over Niles; Struthers tops Alliance



CANFIELD -- Chuck DeCola rushed for 100 yards on 14 carries Friday as the Canfield High football team shut out Niles, 28-0.
DeCola had touchdown runs of 14 and 12 yards for the Cardinals (2-4, 1-2) in the Metro Athletic Conference game.
Canfield rushed for 309 yards on 51 attempts and quarterback Jamie McNally connected on 5-of-7 passes for 88 yards, including TD strikes of 38 yards to Jordan Ferns and 7 yards to Joe Rosko.
Niles (2-4, 0-2) gained 157 yards on 38 rushes and they managed just 28 yards passing on 5-of-12 tries, with two interceptions by Canfield's John Virostko and Dan Rafferty.
Struthers 28, Alliance 14
STRUTHERS -- Four players scored touchdowns for the Wildcats (3-3, 1-1 MAC).
After the Aviators (3-3, 1-3) took an early 7-0 lead following a blocked punt, Struthers ran off 28 straight points.
Tim Zetts passed 10 yards to Matt Thurik to tie the game, then a Zetts short quarterback sneak made it 14-7.
Just before the half, Zetts found Eric Anderson for a 15-yard scoring aerial.
In the third quarter, Brian Walton ran for a 7-yard touchdown and Steve Rankin added his fourth successful conversion kick.
Alliance hit a 50-yard touchdown pass to start the fourth quarter and round out the scoring.
