Trimble punts
NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. -- Kyle Trimble, a Western Reserve High graduate, punted six times for 194 yards (32.2-yard average) for the Westminster College football team in last Saturday's 50-17 loss to Mansfield. Trimble's longest punt was 42 yards. Three punts were inside the 20 yard line.
Hunkus plays for Duke
DURHAM, N.C. -- Girard High graduate Tealle Hunkus has a hitting percentage of .301 in 12 volleyball matches for Duke University.
Hunkus, a freshman, is averaging more than nine kills. On the season, the outside hitter has 21 blocks and 61 digs. The Blue Devils are 4-8.
In a loss to No. 17-ranked Santa Clara, Hunkus led the Blue Devils with 15 kills, a hitting percentage of .400, six digs and three blocks.
Against No. 25 Wisconsin, she had eight kills, three blocks and a hitting percentage of .400.
TAC's top player
HUBBARD -- Hubbard High volleyball player Traci Hassell has been selected as the Trumbull Athletic Conference's player of the week.
Hassell (5-foot-9), a senior setter/outside hitter, was named MVP of the Worthington Invitational after Hubbard's wins over Worthington Kilbourne, Dublin Scioto and Mogadore Field.
Hassell also had strong performances in wins against Girard and Champion. In five matches, she had 49 kills 23 blocks, seven aces, 59 digs and 53 assists.
Pavlich wins award
WOOSTER -- Joe Pavlich, a junior defensive end for the College of Wooster football team from East Palestine High, won one of the team's weekly awards for his contribution to last Saturday's 69-7 win over Bethany.
Pavlich (6-foot-4, 215 pounds) won the "Gamebreaker Award" for his first-quarter pass interception deep in Bethany territory that set up Tony Sutton's 9-yard scoring dash.
Carlton Morganshoots his age
CANFIELD -- Carlton Morgan, an 88-year-old amateur golfer scored better than his age recently at Diamond Back Golf Course.
Morgan shot an 84 last week while playing with the Canfield Roundtable Golfers. He was in a group that included Dom Peterson, Bo Trimber and Dr. Sheridan Weaver.
Golf scramble
HOWLAND -- Beatitude House will have its sixth annual four-person golf scramble Sunday at Avalon South Golf Course.
The shotgun start is set for 9 a.m.
One golfer also will have a chance to win $1 million, sponsored by Varley's Dodge City and Mitsubishi. The $1 million shootout will immediately follow the scramble at about 2 p.m.
Proceeds will benefit Beatitude House, a nonprofit organization sponsored by the Ursuline Sisters of Youngstown.
Two programs, transitional housing serving homeless women with children, and an education an career preparation program that serves both homeless and low-income women, are offered.
Both programs promote ongoing education, helping women with career goals and placing families in permanent housing.

Reports: NFL fines Smith, Broncos
DENVER -- The National Football League has fined the Denver Broncos for wearing the wrong uniforms in a game against San Diego, and it fined wide receiver Rod Smith for accidentally hitting an official, according to published reports.

* ATLANTA -- The Atlanta Hawks re-signed Jason Terry, matching the three-year, $22.5 million offer sheet the free agent guard signed with the Utah Jazz.
* DENVER -- The Denver Nuggets signed rookie free agent center Chris Marcus. Terms were not released.

Davis Cup draw
LONDON -- The United States will host Austria in the first round of the 2004 Davis Cup. The draw for the 16-team World Group also put top-seeded Australia against visiting Sweden, and second-seeded Spain at the Czech Republic.
