YOUNGSTOWN -- Tickets will go on sale at 10 a.m. Monday at Ticketmaster outlets for a concert by modern rock band 3 Doors Down on Oct. 19 at Youngstown State University Beeghly Center. The concert, which is being promoted by management of The Cellar nightclub in Struthers, is being tied to YSU Homecoming Week activities. Tickets will be $30 for floor and lower reserved seats, $25 for upper reserved. Tickets also may be purchased at Campus Book & amp; Supply on Lincoln Avenue, across from YSU Jones Hall, and The Cellar, 162 S. Bridge St.
3 Doors Down, from Mississippi, had its first taste of success in 2000 with the song "Kryptonite," from its debut CD. The follow-up recording is titled "Away From the Sun."
Tickets also are on sale for a performances by award-winning blues band Magic Slim & amp; the Teardrops on Nov. 10 at The Cellar. Cost is $12. Call the nightclub at (330) 750-0199.
50th anniversary show
COLUMBIANA -- Columbiana Cinema will turn back the calendar to 1953, the year the theater opened, during its 50th anniversary celebration from Friday through Oct. 9. "Roman Holiday," a 1953 film starring Audrey Hepburn and Gregory Peck, will be shown, and admission will be 70 cents, as it was 50 years ago. The first 500 patrons will receive a 50th anniversary coin pouch, and movie posters and a DVD of "Roman Holiday" will be raffle prizes. The movie theater is at 5 N. 21st Applefest gathering
FRANKLIN, Pa. -- Apple pie baking and eating contests are planned during the 21st Applefest in this Venango County community. Craft and food vendors will sell their wares from 10 a.m. to dusk Friday and Saturday and from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. next Sunday in Bandstand and Fountain parks, on opposite sides of 12th Street. Remembrance concert
WARREN -- Former piano students of the late Dr. Robert Hopkins will remember him in concert at 4 p.m. next Sunday at Christ Episcopal Church, 2627 Atlantic St. Hopkins, who died May 5, taught piano, organ, harpsichord and more at YSU's Dana School of Music for more than 30 years. He also was a visiting lecturer at Westminster College in New Wilmington, Pa., and music director at First Presbyterian Church of Youngstown and First Unitarian Church.
Performers will be Nancy Zipay DeSalvo; Tim Elder; Kay Gray; Melva Huebert; Daniel Laginya; Michael Miller; Gary Richards; Anthony Ruggiero; Richard Shaw; Jeffrey Trimble; and Diane Yazvac. Bands of America
YOUNGSTOWN -- Youngstown State University Marching Pride will host the Bands of America Regional High School Championship Oct. 18 at Stambaugh Stadium.
Thirty high school marching bands from Ohio, Pennsylvania, Kentucky, Virginia, North Carolina, Michigan and New York will compete. Bands will be judged on musical and visual performance.
Competition will begin at 8 a.m., and the finals will get under way at 7 p.m.
Volunteers are needed to usher, run crew for sets entering and leaving the field and general assistance. To volunteer call Heather Sirney at Dana School of Music office at (330) 941-3636.
Coordinators are Stephen L. Gage, YSU director of bands, and John Venesky, associate director.

YOUNGSTOWN -- Youngstown State University Marching Band alumni are invited to join in YSU's homecoming festivities on Oct. 25.
