Man sues E. Palestine over fireworks injury

LISBON -- A man is suing the city of East Palestine and a fireworks company on behalf of his 4-year-old son who was burned during a July 4, 2001, fireworks display.
Douglas McCague, 376 E. Highland Ave., East Palestine, filed the lawsuit for his son, Jordan, earlier this week in Columbiana County Common Pleas Court.
Besides naming East Palestine as a defendant, the suit also names Zambelli Internationale Fireworks Manufacturing Co., New Castle, Pa.
The lawsuit alleges that Jordan was at a fireworks display hosted by the city when a fireworks explosive manufactured and ignited by Zambelli malfunctioned, hit the ground and struck Jordan, causing severe burns.
The city was negligent in failing to keep spectators back a safe distance, the lawsuit alleges.
McCague is seeking compensatory damages exceeding $25,000.
The case is assigned to Judge C. Ashley Pike.
