HIGH SCHOOL PREVIEW | Friday night football

CHANEY (4-1) vs. POLAND (4-1)
Game time: 7:30 p.m. at Stambaugh Stadium.
Last meeting: Chaney won 38-17 last year. The Cowboys have won three straight over the Bulldogs.
Notebook: Chaney is coming off a 48-0 City Series victory over Woodrow Wilson in which the Cowboys rushed for 356 yards. Coach Ron Berdis' team, which has won four straight games, is seventh in Division II, Region 7 of this week's computer ratings. Its defense has not allowed a point in the last two weeks. Poland defeated Niles 18-7 last week as Jim Shurilla rushed for 178 yards and two TDs. The Bulldogs are sixth in Div. III, Region 11.
URSULINE (3-2, 0-0)vs. WARREN HARDING (5-0, 1-0)
Game time: 7:30 p.m. at Mollenkopf Stadium, Warren.
Last meeting: Harding won 43-10 last season. The Raiders have won two straight over the Irish.
Notebook: Ursuline comes in on a roll, having won its last three after two close losses in the opening weeks. The Irish are led by QB Daryll Clark, RBs Terrell Washington and Alex Allen and WR Derrick Stewart. Warren Harding coach Thom McDaniels hasn't been completely happy with his team's performance the last three weeks, but, like they did last season, the Raiders are finding ways to win. Richard Davis, the Steel Valley Conference's leading rusher, scored the go-ahead touchdown on a short run in overtime last week against Lakewood St. Edward. Harding is third in USA Today's Super 25 rankings, behind De La Salle (Calif.) and Los Alamitos (Calif.), and second in the Div. I state poll and Region 1 computer ratings. RB Delbert Ferguson will face his old Irish teammates for the first time since transferring to Harding last year.
TV/Radio: FOX 17/62 tape delay at 10:30 p.m.; WKBN-AM (570).
MOONEY (4-1) vs. FITCH (4-1)
Game time: 7:30 p.m. at Falcon Stadium Austintown.
Last meeting: Fitch won 17-16 last season. The Falcons have won two straight over the Cardinals.
Notebook: The former SVC rivalry pits Fitch's balanced offense against Mooney's stellar defense. The Falcons, led by QB John Mang, RB Eric Chine and WR Jeff Kotel provide a good run-pass balance. Senior Miles Williams, however, has missed two straight games with a hamstring injury and is doubtful. Mooney's 55-0 win over Painesville Riverside was its second shutout of the season. CB Brad Handel and DE Dave Zidian lead the SVC in interceptions and fumble recoveries, respectively, with three each. The Cardinals are surrendering just over seven points a game, while Fitch has not been held under 20 points all season. Mooney is fifth in the Div. IV state poll and seventh in the Region 13 computer ratings. Fitch is 17th in the Div. I state poll and sixth in Region 1 of the computer ratings.
Radio: WBBW-AM (1240).
HOWLAND (4-1, 2-0)vs. SALEM (3-2, 2-0)
Game time: 7:30 p.m. at Reilly Stadium, Salem.
Last meeting: Howland won 22-7 last season. The Tigers have won four straight over the Quakers.
Notebook: The outcome of this Metro Athletic Conference game will be dependent on which Salem team shows up -- the one that pounded Struthers 47-7 last week or the one that lost to Marlington and West Branch. The Quakers have a potent offense, led by QB Landon Heath, WR Zac Grey and RB Lance Buckley. RB Bill Mansour also gives Salem a physical presence in the backfield. Howland, eighth in the Div. II state poll and third in the Region 5 ratings, rides its Div. I talent and four-game winning streak into Columbiana County. Penn State recruit Tony Davis picked off two passes, one that he returned 85 yards for a TD, in last week's 34-6 win over Canfield. Sole possession of first place in the MAC is up for grabs.
Radio: WSOM-AM (600).
HUBBARD (4-1, 1-1)vs. LAKEVIEW (3-2, 1-1)
Game time: 7:30 p.m. at Lakeview High Stadium.
Last meeting: Hubbard won 35-28 last season. The Eagles have won two straight over the Bulldogs.
Notebook: The Trumbull Athletic Conference schedule has proved challenging for the Eagles, who lost to Newton Falls 28-15 and then hung on last week against Liberty 28-22. Hubbard fell out of the Div. III state poll and is ninth in Region 9 of the computer ratings, one spot ahead of Lakeview. RB Shaun Lane again was the catalyst for Hubbard, rushing for 221 yards and three TDs against Liberty. Lakeview, meanwhile, compiled 294 yards and three TDs on the ground, with Matt Nero and Justin Rush doing most of the damage. This game is a nice complement to the TAC's other featured game between league unbeatens Girard and Newton Falls.
Radio: WBBG-FM (106.1).
CRESTVIEW (1-4, 1-1)vs. COLUMBIANA (4-0, 2-0)
Game time: 7:30 p.m. at Firestone Park Stadium, Columbiana.
Last meeting: Columbiana won 38-0 last season.
Notebook: Traditionally a good Tri-County League rivalry, but the Clippers might be too strong this season. Columbiana is outscoring its opponents by an average of 39-12. QB Adam Fast and WR Andrew Peacock led the team last week in a 49-13 win over Southern. The Clippers are 17th in the Div. V state poll and sixth in the Region 17 computer ratings. They are one of two remaining unbeatens in the TCL; United, which plays host to Sebring, is the other.
