GIRARD -- The board of education levy committee will meet at 7 p.m. Saturday in the high school cafeteria to collect questions about the November ballot issue. The questions will be addressed in a follow-up meeting Oct. 8.
Girard City Council endorsed the 5.9-mill levy Monday. Several community organizations have also voiced support, board member Jane A. Harris said Wednesday.
"This is a do-or-die levy. It's a vote for our children, not for us," Harris added.
The board announced interviews for a new head softball coach have started. The interview team of board member Mark Zuppo Sr., athletic director Joe Cappuzzello, high school principal Ron Ragozine, and former softball coach Renny Paolone will meet with one more candidate before making their final recommendation.

It was announced that the Girard cheerleader squads won the annual cheerleading competition at Eastwood Mall in Niles. A segment of their demonstration will be aired several times on WKBN TV-27 and Fox-33 morning news shows.
The following were appointed volunteer basketball assistant coaches: Rob Ruiz, Frank Caputo, Mary Domitrovich and Dominic Ragazzine. George Garrett was appointed assistant speech coach; Claudia J. Corbe will be prep bowl coach at the intermediate school.
The board is selling used desks and chairs that have been replaced with new equipment. Desks are $5 each; chairs are $1 each.
Proceeds of $800 from the sale of the used equipment by the Girard PTO will be used to help fund field trips and other extracurricular activities.
Those interested in buying one of the remaining 150 desks or chairs should contact the school board during normal business hours.
