Eckerts are feted at surprise party for 50th jubilee

XCANFIELD -- Mr. and Mrs. Mel Eckert of 4287 Timberbrook Trail were honored Sept. 6 at a surprise party at Antone's Banquet Centre in Boardman on the occasion of their golden wedding anniversary.
Arrangements for the celebration were made by the couple's children and their spouses, Michele and Jim Dunn of Youngstown and Mark and Sue Eckert of Canfield, and their two grandchildren.
Mr. Eckert and the former Peggie Wright were married Sept. 12, 1953, at Sebring Methodist Church.
He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, and is president of Eckert's Interiors in Boardman, where his wife is secretary-treasurer.
The couple are members of Tabernacle Evangelical Presbyterian Church. Mr. Eckert belongs to the Salem Golf Club.
