Teams poll vaulting after Week 5's litany of losses

COLUMBUS (AP) -- Quite a few football teams did some poll vaulting in the weekly Associated Press Ohio high school football rankings.
With almost 25 percent of the top 10 teams losing, there were substantial changes in the third weekly media voting announced Tuesday.
Two No. 1s (Delphos St. John's in Division V and Dola Hardin Northern in VI) lost, as did one No. 2 (Coshocton in IV), a No. 3 (Amanda-Clearcreek in V), two No. 4s and two more No. 5s.
As a result, Marion Pleasant and Columbus Grove climbed to the top spots to join Cleveland St. Ignatius, Macedonia Nordonia, Cleveland Benedictine and Coldwater as the top teams in the voting.
Pleasant trailed Delphos St. John's by 43 points last week but took advantage of the Blue Jays' 34-26 defeat against Versailles to grab a 65-point lead on Smithville. Woodsfield Monroe Central is No. 3, with Delphos St. John's dropping to fourth, followed by Morral Ridgedale.
In Division VI, Hardin Northern lost to McComb 35-14, paving the way for Columbus Grove to go from 17 points back to a 68-point lead on No. 2 Cleveland Cuyahoga Heights. Maria Stein Marion Local and Norwalk St. Paul shared third, with Mogadore fifth and Hardin Northern plummeting to eighth.
Division III leader Benedictine picked up the most first-place votes (30) and has the biggest lead (100 points) of any of the No. 1 teams. The tightest race is in Division I, where heavyweights St. Ignatius and Warren Harding are separated by just 17 points.
Fourteen of the 60 teams in last week's rankings lost.
