SHARON, Pa. -- Police charged Beth Ann Trolio, 24, of Smith Avenue with corruption of minors and statutory sexual assault. Police said she is accused of having sex with a 15-year-old Sharon boy in late June or early July.
She surrendered to police Wednesday and was released without bond after being arraigned, they said.
Contact cops after calls
COLUMBIANA -- Anyone receiving phone calls from someone soliciting on behalf of the Columbiana Area Chamber of Commerce should contact Columbiana police immediately, chamber officials said. No one from the chamber is soliciting, but several businesses have reported receiving such calls in the past two weeks.
Board plans meeting
NEW MIDDLETOWN -- Springfield Board of Education is scheduled to meet Oct. 21, with a work session starting at 7 p.m., followed by the regular monthly meeting at 8 met. The board met in executive session Tuesday to discuss personnel. Schools Superintendent Debra Mettee said no formal action was taken.
Fake-money warning
NEW CASTLE, Pa. -- Police are warning merchants that fake money is being circulated in the area. Neshannock Police said a bogus $50 bill was passed Sunday at the BP Oil Station on Wilmington Road. Other fake bills have been passed at area businesses in the last month, said Pennsylvania State Police. A counterfeit $20 bill was used Sept. 16 at the Burger King restaurant on West State Street, they said.
Break-in at Marc's Cafe
NEW CASTLE, Pa. -- Someone took a television set and $200 from Marc's Cafe on North Mill Street. Police said someone broke into the eatery sometime overnight from Tuesday to Wednesday.
Fund-raiser plannedto help injured student
SALEM -- A fund-raiser is scheduled for Oct. 4 for Salem High School senior Rhonda Williams, who was injured in an traffic accident a year ago.
Highlighting the event will be a dinner set for 6 p.m. at the high school cafeteria.
Cost for the dinner is $10. Reservations are recommended and may be made by calling the high school at 332-8905 and asking for Darlene Heineman.
Anyone wishing to donate money for Rhonda may send a check payable to The Rhonda Williams Fund, in care of Salem High School, 1200 E. Sixth St.
Man faces chargesin cable-theft case
SHARON, Pa. -- A Russell Street man faces charges after being accused of selling stolen television cable service to his neighbors.
Police charged William Wilson, 45, with five counts each of theft of services and theft by deception. Police said Wilson was acting as maintenance manager of his Russell Street apartment and was apparently selling cable service to five tenants for a monthly fee.
Police are unsure how long the cable was being sold to the residents, but they were informed Sept. 19. Wilson surrendered to police this week and was arraigned. He was released without monetary bond. The residents who received the cable service will not be charged, police said.
Stories for preschoolers
LISBON -- Story time for preschoolers will be at the Lepper Library, 303 E. Lincoln Way, beginning at 11 a.m. Oct. 7 and continuing at the same time each Tuesday until Dec. 16.
Annual Kids Day set
LEETONIA -- The 28th annual Kids Day at Leetonia Sportsman's Club will be noon Saturday at the club grounds on East High Street. There will be shooting, archery and fishing events and a hot-dog roast for children age 6 to 15. The event is free and registration begins at 11 a.m.
Knife found in girl's purse
YOUNGSTOWN -- An eight-inch knife was found Wednesday in the purse of a 16-year-old student at Chaney High School, police said. The West Princeton Avenue girl was taken to the Mahoning County Juvenile Justice center to face a charge of carrying a concealed weapon.
Reports don't explain how school officials learned of the knife in the girl's purse.
