WARREN -- Gina Abruzzino led Youngstown State to a second-place finish at the Youngstown State Fall Invitational Monday.
Ball State won the meet with a score of 613. Ali Meyer of Ball State was the medalist with a 150.
Abruzzino shot 77-74--151. YSU had a team score of 635.

PAC cites Chambers
NEW WILMINGTON -- Brandon Chambers, sophomore wide receiver for the Thiel College football team from Farrell High, was named Presidents' Athletic Conference Player of the Week for his performance in the Tomcats' 35-7 win over Bluffton last Saturday.
Chambers (6-foot, 164 pounds) shattered the Thiel record for pass receiving yards in a game with 283 on eight receptions, and three touchdowns of 48, 49 and 57 yards.
Eric Field, junior linebacker for Washington & amp; Jefferson, was named defensive player of the week. Field registered 15 tackles, 10 of them unassisted, in the Presidents' 36-14 win over Franklin & amp; Marshall.
Mound leads Thiel
GREENVILLE, Pa. -- Thiel College junior Katie Mound, a Southeast High graduate, was named President's Athletic Conference women's soccer player of the week.
Mound had a goal and two assists in a 7-0 win at D'Youville, and three goals and two assists in a win over Pitt-Bradford. Mound is second in the PAC in points scored (14) and tied for third in goals scored (5) and assists (4).
Scramble returns
HUBBARD -- The Pine Lakes/Doughton three-man, two-day golf scramble is returning after a two-year absence.
The event, slated for Oct. 11-12, is open to amateur golfers. Entry fee is $300 per team. The first place prize is $1,080 in merchandise based on a field of 30 teams.
The tournament will play at Doughton Oct. 11 and at Pine Lakes Oct. 12. There will be a 9 a.m. shotgun start both days. Entry fee includes two days of golf and riding cart and also skin games.

SVC selects McCarthy
Kyle McCarthy of Cardinal Mooney High was named Steel Valley Conference player of the week for football.
A 5-foot-11, 180-pound junior, McCarthy accounted for 240 all-purpose yards in the Cardinals' 55-0 victory over Painesville Riverside last weekend.
McCarthy rushed for 90 yards, passed for 95 and returned punts totaling 55 yards. He scored two touchdowns, and on defense, had two interceptions and five tackles.
Salem Browns events
SALEM -- The Salem Area Browns Backers will hold several fund-raising events in October at the club located at 12751 Salem-Warren Rd.
A portion of the proceeds will go to purchase toys for Tod Children's Hospital, and for children from two needy area families.
On tap are the Haunted Hayrides on Oct. 4-5, 11-12, 18-19 and 25-26, and the Haunted Hayride Halloween Party on Halloween Oct. 31.
Tickets for the hayrides are $6 each, with childen under 5 admitted free. Tickets for the Halloween event are $8 each, or $5 for children under 10.

Correction
MASSILLON -- Boardman High football player Brad Beck rushed for 107 yards in the Spartans' 35-2 loss to Massillon Jackson last Friday. He was not included in the weekend leaders in Monday's editions because Boardman officials did not report statistics following the game.

Fight added
A third fight between heavyweight contenders Hasim Rahman and David Tua has been added to a Dec. 13 card that features a middleweight title fight between Bernard Hopkins and William Joppy and a welterweight title fight between Ricardo Mayorga and Cory Spinks.
The Rahman-Tua fight will be an elimination bout for the WBA title, which is held by Roy Jones Jr.
