NEW CASTLE, Pa. -- Jameson Memorial Hospital will have an open house Wednesday for those interested in learning more about the Dean Ornish Program for reversing heart disease.
The open house will include foods from the program, exercise and stress management techniques. It will be from 7 to 9 p.m. in the Jameson School of Nursing auditorium.
Penn-Ohio Watershed
JAMESTOWN, Pa. -- The Penn-Ohio Watershed Association will meet at 9 a.m. Thursday at the Pymatuning State Park ranger station here.
The association's mission is protection and restoration of the Pymatuning and Shenango River watersheds. It consists of representatives of local agencies in Ashtabula, Trumbull, Crawford, Mercer and Lawrence counties, local residents and state environmental officials.
Robbery investigation
NEW CASTLE, Pa. -- Neshannock police are looking for anyone who was in Call's Plaza shortly after a robbery.
Police said a man went into the Family Dollar Store at 2:29 p.m. Monday and made a purchase. As the cashier opened the register, he pulled out a knife and took the cash from the drawer, police said.
Anyone in the plaza at that time is asked to call police at (724) 654-4211.
Police described the robber as a white man in his 20s, 5 feet 11 inches tall, with a thin build. He was wearing a gray T-shirt over his head with a ball cap, and blue shorts.
Hearing aids stolen
SALEM -- A vehicle parked in a shopping plaza lot on East State Street was entered over the weekend and a bag was taken that contained two hearing aids valued at $1,500.
Early school dismissal
YOUNGSTOWN -- All schools in the city district will be dismissed one half-hour earlier than usual on Monday because of professional meetings.
Free haircuts
YOUNGSTOWN -- Project Daymaker, a 34-foot Winnebago outfitted with hair salon stylists, will be at Rescue Mission of Mahoning Valley, 962 Martin Luther King Blvd., on Wednesday to offer free services to people who could not otherwise afford to have a professional haircut.
Daymaker is staffed by volunteer licensed stylists from Casal's de Spa & amp; Salon of Canfield from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Temporary closings
GIRARD -- Pittsburgh Street, which closed today, will remain closed for about two weeks because of the U.S. Route 422 widening project.
About 150 feet of Center Street at 422 will remain closed for another week, while 150 feet of Avon Street will remain closed a week.
Entertainment books
CHAMPION -- Champion Rotary Club is selling 2004 Entertainment books.
This year's book includes discounts at businesses throughout Trumbull and Mahoning counties. The book is available through Nov. 14 for $20.
Warren police test
WARREN -- The city human resources department says 130 people have signed up to take a civil service test to become police officers.
The city expects to hire between three and 10 officers within the next two years, and the current civil service list has been exhausted. The department has 78 officers.
The test is set for 9 a.m. Saturday in the Warren G. Harding High School cafeteria.
