PRO FOOTBALL Buffalo getting thin at running back; Morris is set for surgery

ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. (AP) -- Buffalo's backup Sammy Morris will miss at least two weeks after surgery to repair a sports hernia Monday, and Travis Henry's status is uncertain, leaving the Bills potentially thin at running back.
Morris missed Buffalo's 17-7 loss at Miami on Sunday with what the Bills initially thought was a groin strain. Coach Gregg Williams said the extent of the injury wasn't fully discovered until Morris was held back for further tests with a specialist after the game.
After surgery in Florida, Morris was expected to return to Buffalo today.
Morris' injury places more emphasis on Henry's status as the Bills prepare to play host to Philadelphia this weekend.
Henry is questionable
Henry did not return after sustaining bruised ribs early in the second quarter against Miami. He was hurt when the ball jammed into his chest after he was tackled and driven into the ground.
Williams said Henry was feeling better on Monday, and that his condition would have to be re-evaluated.
Henry wasn't available for comment. Henry's representative Greg Johnson said that his client is taking painkillers and hasn't ruled out playing this weekend.
"He plans to play on Sunday," said Johnson. "He's obviously sore, but he's doing OK."
Johnson added that Henry tried to play through the pain, but pulled himself out when it became unbearable. Henry finished with five carries for 7 yards.
The Bills, who traded Olandis Gary to Detroit before the start of the season, have only one other tailback on their depth chart, third-stringer Joe Burns.
Rookie Willis McGahee is on the non-football injury list as he continues to recover after tearing three ligaments in his left knee during the Fiesta Bowl last January.
Under NFL rules, the former University of Miami standout is not eligible to be activated until after Week 6.
