Hubbard school board
The Hubbard Board of Education met Monday. Here are meeting highlights:
Approved payment of about $45,500 to Thornton and Son for the high school window project, which is completed.
Approved payment to Hanahan and Strollo for stadium renovations and boiler project totaling $16,730.
Approved several certified substitute teachers.
Approved the following advisers: Lisa Shattuck, freshman class; Annette Niddel, speech team; Tracey Hoover, grades 5/6 Prep Bowl; Frank O'Brien, grade 7/8 Prep Bowl, MaryAnn Augustyn, student council at Reed Middle School; Michael Pearce, Reed Middle School yearbook.
Approved a continuing contract for Julianne Carsone, Hubbard High School guidance counselor. Salary was not available.
Approved Brendan Keiper and Matt Chavez as lifeguards at the city pool at $7 an hour and Angel Gearhart for $8 an hour.
Announced a pool levy committee meeting for 6 p.m. Wednesday in Reed Middle School cafeteria. All residents are welcome.
Recognized Brian Valerio for receiving a perfect score of 800 on the math section of the SAT test. The average person scores 541. It is believed to be the first perfect score in school history.
Announced that the high school received the Best Healthy School Award, one of only three schools in the state.
Reviewed district enrollment figures: Roosevelt Elementary, 679 students; Reed Middle, 760; Hubbard High, 871; total, 2,310.
Approved Lisa Levy and Jillene Catterson as St. Patrick speech pathologist one day a week each at $30 per hour.
Approved the high school bowling club as a varsity team for the 2003/2004 school year.
Hired Trevor Glass and Jamie Budd as co-junior varsity swim coaches.
