Hearing to be held in vandalism case

YOUNGSTOWN -- A disciplinary hearing will be scheduled for four of the five girls accused of breaking into and vandalizing Wilson High School, said M. Mike McNair, city school district spokesman.
The fifth girl is not a city schools student.
The youngsters, ages 8 to 16, are accused of breaking 13 windows at the school at 10:37 p.m. Saturday, spraying blue and red paint and opening trophy cases and lockers.
"The money amount of the damage is not significant, but the behavior is something that has to be addressed," McNair said. "We're not going to ignore it. It's a significant act of vandalism."
While expulsion is a possibility based on school rules, McNair said officials will not make any decision without considering the facts of the allegation, the history of the pupils' behaviors and consultation with parents.
One option to be considered, he added, would be the use of a Multidisciplinary Student Achievement Team that would pull together parents, community members, social workers and others to review performance and offer advice for intervention if necessary.
