CIVILIAN VICTIM: A statue of Jenny Wade stands outside the house where she was shot by a stray bullet the morning of July 3, 1863, the third day of the battle. The young woman, whose name was actually Mary Virginia Wade, was the only civilian woman killed in the battle. She was baking bread for the Union soldiers when a bullet came through the door and struck her heart.
