WARREN -- The city human resources department says 130 people have signed up to take a civil service test to become police officers.
The city expects to hire between three and 10 officers within the next two years, and the current civil service list has been exhausted. The department has 78 officers.
The test, which consists of written and physical agility sections, is set for 9 a.m. Saturday in the Warren G. Harding High School cafeteria.
Girard street closed
GIRARD -- Pittsburgh Street, which closed today, will remain closed for about two weeks because of the U.S. Route 422 widening project.
About 150 feet of Center Street at 422 will remain closed for another week, and 150 feet of Avon Street will remain closed a week.
Champion Rotary sellsentertainment books
CHAMPION -- Champion Rotary Club is selling 2004 entertainment books. This year's book includes discounts at businesses throughout Trumbull and Mahoning counties.
The book is available through Nov. 14 for $20.
Books bought from Champion Rotary provide funds used for community services.

St. Rose Churchplans Apple Festival
GIRARD -- The first St. Rose Church Apple Festival will be from 1 to 10 p.m. Oct. 11 on the church grounds, 48 E. Main St.
Festivities will include games for all ages and music, with cornstalks and pumpkins for sale.
Apple Festival dinners of barbecued chicken, french fries and apple sauce will be available. Dinners, which range in price from $5 to $12, depending on the portions, should be pre-ordered by filling out forms available at the church rectory or St. Rose School. The meals are to be paid for in advance by check.
Customer exposes himself
NILES -- A clerk from Family Dollar on Robbins Avenue told police a customer exposed himself.
The man was in the store around 8 p.m. Monday, reports said. Reports indicated the clerk may know where the man lives.
Howland Road closing
HOWLAND -- Castle Rock Drive will be closed about 200 feet south of Raglan Drive from Oct. 6 to Oct. 10 as workers from the Trumbull County Engineer's Office replace a culvert.
Penn-Ohio Watershedmeeting is Thursday
JAMESTOWN, Pa. -- The Penn-Ohio Watershed Association will meet at 9 a.m. Thursday at the Pymatuning State Park ranger station here.
The association's mission is protection and restoration of the Pymatuning and Shenango River watersheds.
It consists of representatives of local agencies in Ashtabula, Trumbull, Crawford, Mercer and Lawrence counties, local residents and state environmental officials.
Program on heart diseaseWednesday at Jameson
NEW CASTLE, Pa. -- Jameson Memorial Hospital will have an open house Wednesday for those interested in learning more about the Dean Ornish Program for reversing heart disease.
The open house will include foods from the program, exercise and stress management techniques.
It will be from 7 to 9 p.m. in the Jameson School of Nursing auditorium.
