New jacket for women is stunning style

KNIGHT RIDDER NEWSPAPERS
You've seen fashion on runways that raised your eyebrows and made you shudder. But here is a garment that delivers a shock -- literally.
Designers at Massachusetts Institute of Technology have developed a protective jacket for women with 80,000 volts of electricity, according to www.wired.com. An attacker can be knocked back and disoriented long enough for the victim to get away.
Powered by a regular nine-volt battery, it looks like stylish outerwear. But it has the built-in circuitry of a stun gun. "It's like putting your hand in an electric socket," says one of the designers, Adam Whiton.
The coat, called Exo-Electric Armor, comes with a lock and key inside a sleeve. It has to be charged with a hidden button so that it needs to be powered up only when needed, say, when a woman is walking to her car alone at night. Unlike Mace or pepper spray, it cannot be easily taken away from the victim and used against her.
Made by Advanced Research Apparel, it will be sold only in women's sizes, available later this year. The cost will be from $900 and $1,000.
