HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL Warren Harding to put streak on line vs. Ursuline

Poland-Chaney might be the area's marquee game Friday night at Stambaugh Stadium.
VINDICATOR STAFF REPORT
Break out the sweaters and the hot chocolate, because the weather is cooling off and high school football season is heating up.
Pardon the Keith Jackson impression, but this is the part of the year that football fans live for.
Warren Harding (5-0, 1-0) -- one of area's few remaining unbeaten teams -- will play host to the red-hot Ursuline Irish, who have won three straight. With a win, the Raiders could clinch their third straight -- and maybe last-ever -- Steel Valley Conference title.
The Raiders have won 16-straight regular season games -- the area's longest such streak -- and have used a mixture of skill, experience and luck to do it.
Saturday's overtime win over Lakewood St. Edward was the second-straight late-game victory for the Raiders, who were ranked second in the state in last week's Associated Press poll.
Mooney, which lost to Warren Harding two weeks ago, will travel to Fitch in a battle of 4-1 teams. The Cardinals lost to Fitch last season, but both teams are much improved.
League battles
Poland will travel to YSU's Stambaugh Stadium to take on Chaney in what might be the area's marquee matchup. Both teams are also 4-1 and the winner will reap a whole bunch of computer points. The Bulldogs, whose lone loss came against Howland, will look to rebound from last year's loss to the Cowboys.
Howland will travel to Salem in what could be the most intriguing Metro Athletic Conference game of the season. After an inconsistent start, the Quakers have caught stride after routing Struthers 47-7 on Friday.
It will be interesting to see how Salem's potent passing attack matches up with Howland's lightning quick secondary, led by seniors Tony Davis (Penn State) and Brandon Alexander (Indiana).
Top games
Hubbard, which rallied to beat Liberty on Friday, will travel to Lakeview hoping to keep pace in the Trumbull Athletic Conference. Last year's champion, Girard, will play at Newton Falls, which handed Hubbard its lone loss.
In other games, South Range (5-0) will look to stay undefeated when it plays at Inter-County League rival Mathews, and Columbiana (5-0) will try to stay perfect in the Tri-County League when the Clippers play host to rival Crestview.
All in all, not a bad lineup of games.
It's not quite rivalry week -- but it's pretty darn close.
