VOLLEYBALL ROUNDUP Hubbard throws scare into ND; Duo leads Lakeview over Poland



HUBBARD -- Hubbard senior Traci Hassell earned tournament MVP honors as the Eagles finished second to Notre Dame Cathedral Latin in Saturday's eight-team Hubbard Invitational.
NDCL defeated Hubbard 15-12, 15-11 in the tournament final. The Lions (13-0) are ranked sixth in the state.
Hassell finished with 22 kills, 46 assists, 15 blocks, 22 digs and five aces in three matches for the Eagles (13-2), who are ranked 16th in the state. Diana Conzett had 20 kills, 17 digs and five blocks, Megan Oltmann had 19 kills and nine blocks and Felicia Resatar added five kills, seven assists, 15 digs and five aces.
"Our kids stepped up and played very hard," Hubbard coach Chuck Montgomery said. "We came close to winning against a real tough opponent. We're getting better and gearing up for next week's matches."
Specifically, Wednesday's match at Lakeview, which will likely decide the Trumbull Athletic Conference title. The Bulldogs won the teams' earlier meeting and are looking to win their first-ever league title.
"I don't think there's a better match in the area this year," Montgomery said. "This one just means so much."
Salem placed third in Saturday's tournament, defeating Columbus Bishop Hartley 12-15, 15-5, 15-4. Quakers senior Lauren Teal joined Hassell and Boardman's Jaclyn Corroto as the three area players on the all-tournament team.
Teal collected three aces, 35 kills, eight blocks and three tips on the day.
Also for the Quakers (21-4) Jessica Griffith has 21 kills, an ace and a tip.
Blue & amp; White Classic
CORTLAND -- Lakeview seniors Whitney Keyser and Megan Taylor earned all-tournament honors as the Bulldogs defeated Poland in the championship match to win the eight-team Blue and White Classic at Lakeview High School.
Keyser had 10 points and 16 kills and Taylor added five blocks and 13 digs in the final, which Lakeview won 11-15, 15-13, 15-12.
Steffi Graf had 16 kills and Dee Muransky added five blocks and 18 digs for Poland (10-1). Graf and Muransky also made the all-tournament team.
Canfield defeated Maplewood 15-8, 15-11 to place third. Stephanie Jarvis had four blocks and Lindsay Owen added seven points, four digs and three aces for the Cardinals (7-10).
Jarvis also earned all-tournament honors, as did Maplewood junior Jen Grayson and Ashtabula Edgewood senior Pam Dresliski.
Springfield 15-15, Canton Timken 6-1
HANOVERTON -- Meghan Louttit had 11 points, three aces and 20 assists and Heather Snyder and Christy Warren each added six points for the Tigers.
Springfield 15-17, United 13-15
HANOVERTON -- Lindsay Johnson had four points, 13 kills and three blocks and Carrie Davis added six points and eight kills for Springfield (13-2).
Brookfield 15-15, Jackson Milton 6-10
BROOKFIELD -- Jessica Zebroski had 11 kills and Rachel Pasquerilla added 29 assists for the Warriors in a triangular at Brookfield High School.
Stephanie Keleckaza had seven kills and Lacie Campbell had five blocks for Jackson-Milton.
Jackson-Milton 15-15, Struthers 12-10
BROOKFIELD -- Stephanie Keleckaza had five kills and Amanda Cavanaugh had eight assists for Jackson-Milton (9-5).
Angela Monico had four kills and Sara Johnson had 10 points for Struthers.
Brookfield 15-15, Struthers 3-5
For Brookfield Katie Miller had five kills and Laura Klouse had five blocks for Brookfield (9-4).
Amanda Cavanaugh had 11 assists and Stephanie Monico had three kills for Struthers (4-9).
